November 29, 201114 yr Simple. You order a coffee from McDonald's. You are ordering a hot cup of coffee. They give you a cup of coffee that is cold. Are you just going to go about your business with the cold cup of coffee, because after all it's McDonald's, so it's not going to be a good cup of coffee to begin with, or are you going to ask them to give you what you paid for? This is the same thing. You paid for an alotted amount of space, you should be given that space free of any infringement from a fat passenger. You guys stretch really far. Reminds me of the Stretch Armstrong doll my sister used to have.
November 29, 201114 yr  You guys stretch really far. Reminds me of the Stretch Armstrong doll my sister used to have. Not really. It just seems illogical to me that someone would cause commotion over a $1 cup of coffee, but not say anything about a $400+ plane ticket. :idunno: Either way it's the same basic premise. You should be given what you're paid for, or the vendor should absolutely have to rectify the situation to your liking.
November 29, 201114 yr I'm arguing the human side as well. I don't want that guys' human side on my human side of the seat I purchased.Sometimes people are overweight because of medical reasons. They have no control over it. No empathy for people like that? A few hours of "discomfort" is too much for you?
November 29, 201114 yr Maybe then, we should clarify...we're arguing the side of the OTHER humans...those who aren't perfect but still have rights. :lol:You don't think it's my right to have the full use of the seat I purchase?
November 29, 201114 yr ^So they pay for an extra ticket. Yes, a few hours of discomfort is unacceptable when the situation could very easily be avoided.

And it wasn't the coffee that drove me to it, it was the lack of customer service. Good try, though.
November 29, 201114 yr Sure I could. Logically, if I were seated prior to his attempting to take his seat, I would be occupying the space he may "spill over" into. Either he fits into the space left, albeit potentially oozing over some, or he doesn't. But unless I were the person taking a seat after he'd been seated, then the laws of physics apply. If that's the only seat left and it isn't physically possible to seat there, then what do you do?
November 29, 201114 yr You don't think it's my right to have the full use of the seat I purchase? Man, you libertarians are a downright humorless group.
November 29, 201114 yr If that's the only seat left and it isn't physically possible to seat there, then what do you do? Meaning he was seating himself AFTER me? Or I was seating myself?
November 29, 201114 yr ^So they pay for an extra ticket. Yes, a few hours of discomfort is unacceptable when the situation could very easily be avoided.I've had to deal with some really obese people next to me on flights quite a few times. All I can say is some of you are really spoiled IMO. I somehow survived and it really wasn't near the horrible experience that you guys make it out to be.
November 29, 201114 yr I've only caused a comotion one time. Yes, at McDonald's. And it wasn't the coffee that drove me to it, it was the lack of customer service. Good try, though. I would argue that this whole is issue is based around customer service, or lack their of. They should do everything in their power to allow a passenger to have the seat and space they purchase. To allow the guy that can't lay off the donuts to "overflow" into your seat is pathetic customer service.
November 29, 201114 yr Meaning he was seating himself AFTER me? Or I was seating myself? It's a packed plane, someone has to take the last remaining seat. Let's do both scenarios, before and after.

To allow the guy that can't lay off the donuts to "overflow" into your seat is pathetic customer service. "They" sell seats. "They" bring you soda and crappy peanuts. "They" don't have control over the other guy's donut intake.
November 29, 201114 yr I'd rather sit next to someone spilling over into my seat than to sit next to an annoying person that can't shut up or some fool that keeps kicking the seat behind me.

While the majority of overweight people are that way of their own accord not all are so I say we remove the "why" from the discussion as it has no bearing on the issue.
