Look at the picture in the link I attached in post 1 and tell me your response is the most rational.

If a person is concerned that someone might invade his or her space, I suggest that the person concerned buy two tickets.

 

Why should the person who isn't infringing on anyone else's purchased ticket/space, have to be the one who buys the extra ticket? Shouldn't the person who is actually in the wrong be made to incurr the extra cost?

The picture you posted seems a bit of an anomaly. The gentlemen can't even be pigeionholed as "fat", because frankly he looks like an enormous man, even height-wise.

 

I'm sorry that you may be uncomfortable, but I don't see that the airline should make a business practice of charging one group for your comfort. As a business practice, it is their job to fill seats. To charge one group more than another, based upon subjectivity, is not a good business practice. On the other hand, it seems to concern you greatly, and it is certainly your perogative to buy the extra seat to ensure your comfort.

I just got back from a trip to Vegas, and on both the trip out and the trip back, there were people who infringed upon my space who weren't at all considered fat.

 

And for the record, there is nothing to say that the person who is "fat" is doing anything wrong.

So, you are on a packed flight. You're in the window seat and someone built like the guy in the picture has the middle seat. Being a packed flight there is no room for you to move or switch seats. Obviously, that guy is taking up more than one seat. What do you do?

Certainly every bit as obnoxious as a large person sitting next to you, IMO.

Absolutely they are. They're taking up more room than what they paid for. It's simple. You pay for one seat. You take up more than one seat, you should be FORCED to purchase a second seat or not fly.

Do you not think I actually buy a space that others should not invade? Do you not see airlines advertising comfortable seating without an asterisk saying "unless you sit by really big folk?"
