ukbellco14 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Allen leads SL with 27 points. SL puts a pretty impressive notch in the win column over a very good, top 10 Pendelton Co. team. Very tight first quarter with SL leading by only a few.... but SL puts the clamps down in the 2nd quarter as they pull away to 19 at the half. Very good ball game. SL will play the winner of the Clark Co/Mason Co. game for the Hoopin-it-Up Holiday Classic Championship. Didnt expect SL to win this big... really thought SL had a chance of getting beat... but the Cards proved otherwise with an 18 point victory. They led by as much as 21 at one point. Solid win and a good test for Wright and the Cardinals! :thumb: On a side note... the SL student section has got to be one of the best, if not "the" best in the state. Very clever. Near the end of the game they started chanting "Overrated"... the Pendelton fans seemed very upset by this... the SL student section quits and goes on to sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." Very funny!
h.s.sportsrbest Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Wow. Count me among those that South Laurel would win a close and hard fought game. The winner obviously surprising, but the margin certainly is.
Mator23 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Great win South...Shows just how tough the Cards really are for all the naysayers out there.
mhighfield Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Great win South...Shows just how tough the Cards really are for all the naysayers out there. Not many Naysayers Cards are the #1 team in this state follwed closely by Scott County.
Mator23 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Was really just throwing that at the 13th region fans who think South could get beat any given night. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry for the confusion. Yeah, I mean comeon..... all these 13th region teams are just as good as a top 10 Pendelton Co. team. JK

bcfan24 Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Both of these teams are sure fire favorites for their regions. South Laurel gets revenge over last year's loss.... Pendleton will be fine, but I was surprised by the final score..
Jim Schue Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 South had eight steals in the first half by trapping out of their zone and playing the passing lanes, which was probably the single largest reason they were up 19 at halftime. Pendleton's chances weren't helped any by Elrod, Elliott and Belcher all picking up three fouls in the first half. Now — and read this following part closely, because I don't care who wins or loses — I'm not saying questionable foul calls against the visitors is why Pendleton lost, because it wasn't. But there were several questionable calls that went against the Wildcats. Those who know me know I rarely comment on the officiating, but it's fishy when Elliott, Belcher and Elrod all pick up their third within a 31-second span midway through the second quarter. Elliott's third foul was an awful call. Belcher picked up No. 4 just 17 seconds into the third quarter on another questionable one. Still, Walt Allen proved too much, scoring 21 of his 27 points in the first half. Trey Smith also continued his run of great play with an 18-point, 7-rebound effort. Elliott had 19 to lead Pendleton. I would love to see these two play again, on a neutral floor such as Rupp Arena.
Les Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I don't know what game you were watchin...All I saw was an action-packed non-controversial game....ok....just kidding.

Not a surprise to me at all, an I know exactly what you are talking about.

SL was clearly the better team and would have won without the fishy calls. There really were no game changing calls, but it hurt Pendelton when they had to go to their bench early in the second because of foul trouble. However, the bad thing about those calls is that they taint a great effort by SL, and an effort that would have resulted in a win regardless (maybe not by 18 though).
Bird Man Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 Physical game by both teams tonight. PC was hurt by foul trouble the whole game, but give credit to a very good South team. Good crowd on hand for both sides. The fans were very involved throught the whole game. SL is now 7-1 PC falls to 6-2 South will definitely stay #1 in the state while Pendleton will either stay at #8 or drop a couple of spots. Fun game to watch......Congrats Cardinals. Good luck to both teams on Thursday.
