October 27, 201114 yr FWIW, I agree with both of you. I was really just playing devils advocate. I had the last pick in a 12 team league and didn't pick a kicker until my last pick. Building depth at other positions allowed me to make some trades when the injury bug hit others.
October 28, 201114 yr I don't know many people that necessarily tell me, "Yeah I expect 95 this week." Projections are for weenies. Too much of a question mark from even the most consistent producers. I don't hope for any number, except for one point more than my opponent.
October 28, 201114 yr I've been doing the Start/Sit threads for 3-4 weeks. I've hit on some and missed on some. This past week there were some questions about what I expected to get from certain players. So let's talk about expectations. Using the standard basic scoring, what do you expect from your team each week? 80-90 points? 90-100+? What makes and elite fantasy player? 15+ point average? What do you expect from the non-elite players? 8+? My expectations are pretty high. I want my team to average in the high 90's. QB = 12-17 RB = 12-15 WR = 10-12 TE = 8-10 K = 10-12 Def = 8-10 I know, I know, the list above doesn't add up to 90+. Depending on the league and number of teams, you're pretty much guaranteed to get 2 elite players that should exceed the above expectations. If I only got 17 from Aaron Rodgers, I'd be a little disappointed. Brees, Brady same thing. Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, Chris Johnson(before this year), Arian Foster etc... I want 20+ from each of my elite players. I'm not going to get that every week, but more times than not I will. So what are your expectations? Will you sacrifice at a certain position to get an elite at another position? That is horrible fantasy stats for a QB...You gotta look at this, most leagues give 6 points per passing TD, and 1 point per 20 passing yards. Based on your "high expectations" you'd be happy with your starting fantasy QB to have a stat line of 120 yards and 1 TD???? That's horrendous, and yeah maybe I'd be statisfied with that too if my QB was Matt Leinart or Charlie Frye. I'd do some more fantasy research if I were you.
October 28, 201114 yr I go into my draft wanting the following: QB 20-25 RBs and Wrs 15 K 10 D 15-20 You really expect to get 15-20 from your D?

It's also funny that I'm saying kickers aren't that big of a deal when I've had David Akers every year, up until this one and now I have Mason Crosby haha!
October 28, 201114 yr We had a team crack 250. I've been over 200 4 times this season. It is not a standard scoring league

Building depth at other positions allowed me to make some trades when the injury bug hit others. Thank God. The whole conversation I was thinking that the woodsrider I know is smarter than that. I know he is. He always says stuff to make me think but he's way off on this one. I was going to ask if I could join your league next year.
October 28, 201114 yr I'm one of the few who don't normally pick a QB early. I look for RBs who get the majority of their teams touches and try to stay away from guys who get their TDs stolen (ie. McFadden/Rice). WR I look for guys who get a lot of catches and targets. I play in all PPR leagues, so I want WRs who get the ball in their hands. I do occasionally pick a QB early. I have Brady in one league this year). When that is the case, I almost always try and pair him with the top WR on that team. This year I took Welker a little earlier than I should just so I could have the Brady/Welker connection and it is working out quite well. I almost always rotate kickers and D. Rare occasions I take a top defense, but I think if you know what you are doing then it doesn't really make a difference. What most people don't realize is you should plan for the playoffs at the end of the season. Know one cares who wins the regular season. When you are trying to improve your team, look only for guys that you think will improve your team in the last few weeks. Obviously you have to get in the playoffs, but if your team isn't good enough to do that then you probably wouldn't have won it all anyway. What I mean by this is most people get nervous or scared when a guy starts struggling or gets injured, so they try and make a move to make their team better in the short run. An example is I have Josh Freeman in the league where I'm in first. I am really deep at RB and WR and I could trade for Romo or someone of that caliber and at first it seems that that would be an obvious trade. I;m not doing it though because #1 Freeman is normally extremely consistent, and #2 Romo's average is maybe 3-5 points higher, so I dont want to compromise my depth at other positions just to gain an extra couple points. Got a little long winded, but I'm a big football nerd in general, especially fantasy football and betting games.
October 28, 201114 yr I think 160. We had a team crack 250. I've been over 200 4 times this season. It is not a standard scoring leagueA guy in my league scored 195 last week...standard scoring league. It didn't hurt that his 2 RB's were Foster and Murray. Both went for over 40.
October 28, 201114 yr In his defense he did say in a standard basic scoring league and that would be 4 points per QB td and 1 point per 25 yards passing.Even then it's pretty low. If you took his high of 17pts x 7 games = 119pts. That would be a middle of the pack QB instead of Elite. I think a QB needs to be at min 20pts to get consideration for elite.
October 29, 201114 yr I had a guy in another league who used to think the same thing. But all positions are important. While there may only be a 2-5 point difference in average from the Top 5 to the Bottom 5, it can make a big impact on the outcome of the week. I don't subscribe to the theory that you can wait until the last round to draft a kicker. If that's the case you may as well pick a new kicker every week. It is impossible to predict what a kicker is going to face on a Sunday. All fg's, all xp's or a mixture of both. Too hard to tell. Just give me a warm, uninjured body to fill the spot.
