Most Consistent Team In Mountains Last 20 Years?

Featured Replies

Well i would definitly have Rock, Bell, Belfry in my top 3 (not in any order) I dont know Bell Co. or Belfry records in the past 20 years but Rockcastle has had only 1 losing season since Tom Larkey has been head coach and that was his first year. Very impresive

1. Bell Co. Dudley has never had a losing season in 31 years.

2. Belfry- Coach Haywood one of the winningest coaches in the State

3. Rockcastle- Larkey 1 losing season in his career

4. Breathitt Co.- 3 state championship in a row, tougher region and semi state

5. Middlesboro- going down hill quick, better make changes soon.

Breathitt won 2 in a row.

And Middlesoboro was beyond young the last two years and still managed a good season. Look for them to be in the thick of things this fall as they only lose 3 seniors.

Rock with 20 consecutive winning seasons. Won 191 and Lost 53 in past 20 seasons. 8 District Championships and 7 runner up. 4 Regional Champions and 3 runner up. 2 State Championship apprearances as runnerup both times.

It has been well over 20 years since Bell even came close to a losing season. If not for Highlands, and maybe Cov. Cath., Bell would probably have 3-4 more State titles.

If if & buts were candy & nuts......

Will have to go with Bell and Corbin as my top 2 picks.

Based on Regular season you might be right but based on post season Corbin has only been to the state title game 2 times in 20 years while Bell has won one title in that span and made only one appearance.

Belfry and Pikeville have the best post season record from what I would call "Mountian Teams."

Belfry has been to four state title games in those 20 years and won 2 of them in AA.

Pikeville has been to four and won three of them in A.

I don't know why but I completely forgot about Pikeville. They are Top 5, IMO.

In no order:

Belfry

Pikeville

Bell Co.

Breathitt Co.

Rockcastle

1. Bell County

2. Pikeville

3. Belfry

Ashland,Bell, Belfrey,Breathitt,Corbin,Lawrence,Prestonsburg,Pikeville,Rockcastle and Russell.

That would be my top 10 right off my head. Some of these programs have had a couple of bad years but most of them have been solid. Russell is probably the most consistant I think. I would take Pikeville in the 80's, Lawrence Co in the 90's and Belfrey in the 00's. All of them have great tradition and a lot to be proud of.

I don't really know if Ashland, Russell or Lawrence Co would be considered Mountain teams. Really they aren't. But if you consider all of Eastern KY as "the mountains" than thats a pretty good list.

I'd have to agree with your list!! But I don't know about Russell being the most consistent, at least going back 20 years??
