Congrats to JJ

 

There will always be detractors for one reason or another.

 

The young man has had an outstanding high school career. When he breaks the record, who really cares how he got it. He will be considered among the best high school running backs the state has ever had. That's an outstanding accomplishment.

You get over it man. You're one of my favorite posters on here but why try to run a good kid into the ground on here for something he has no control of? He goes all out the way he should. He's had nice games vs nice opponents over the last few years. I've watched him. He's legit. I understand what you are saying about leaving him in but I just think it's bush smearing a kids thread. I also would venture to say Derek Homer had a lot of carries to get his yardage too vs a lot of smaller schools.

I'd like to know what he rushed for vs Cov Cath, Highlands or some of the other big schools. I'd ventrue to say he's been in triple digits in about all those games with everybody in the house knowing he's getting the ball.

Last year he rushed for over 400 against Cov Cath,almost sure he had 250+ against Ashland and Belfry, and somewhere around 200 against Boyle and Highland. Any of those teams will tell you he is for real.

Good luck to JJ Jude. It is a shame his coach's tactics are detracting at all from a great career.

If you think it is a shame why mention it? Aren't you adding to the detractors by saying something about it on here? I'd like to know of any state individual record that a coach did not attempt to help the player out on.

The problem with state records is there will always be attempts by the coaches to make it happen. I remember when Chris Redman was going for the state passing TD record and he threw TDs of 1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 6, and 20 yards. Most quarterbacks now just tuck and run for one or two yards.

 

I remember Travis Atwell of Hancock County being left in late to pad his stats for Mr. Football in 1999.

 

How many blowouts was Scott Russell of Evarts in when he won Mr. Football in 1991?

 

Did Monquantae Gibson really need to rush for 574 yards vs. Shawnee in 2001 or was the game in hand once he reached 350?

 

As long as there are records, people are going to gun for them. Basketball coaches do it all the time when single game records are on the line.

 

I dont fault the kid one bit. Of course, how ironic would it be if Johnson Central makes an early playoff exit and Wales passes him in the 3A state title game.

Wow. I'd love to see the reaction here, if Dale left PT in just to break records...

 

If that were to happen, they would be getting slayed by everyone, especially with the district schedule they faced.

Get over it man. Nobody is knocking the kid's heart or ability. It's the "spirit" of the record that I am attacking. I will guarantee he got plenty of big runs, in blowouts to pad stats, particularly this year. I don't like it.

 

What's he supposed to do? He has no control over the schedule or the coaches.

I personally hope that Trinity would never leave a kid in, in a blowout, for some meaningless record.

 

Perhaps that is because at Trinity it is a meaningless record to some. For a school in the mountains with an inconsistent football tradition, it would be nice for the whole community to have the state's all-time leading rusher be from their school.

As you can tell by my user name , that I'm not in the inner circle of Ft. Thomas , so when exactly did Highlands become a big school ? I'm pretty sure 800 kids,co-ed ,9 thru 12 is not considered a big school.

:thumb: Agree completely. Jude is an incredibly durable athlete who has had a tremendous career. Matney's antics aside, Jude has earned every one of those yards.

I want the facts to be correct also. I could be wrong, memory is not what it used to be. I'm sure he had well over 1100 against those five quality opponents. He has done it his whole carreer and so far this year he has averaged about 25 carries a game. I have two sons who play on this team, one who plays in the backfield with JJ , both start on defence, and I would be upset if Matney didn't do everything in his power not to let JJ earn the record as long as it didn't compromise wins. I feel there is alot of hypocritsism on here with all the 70-0 victories posted on here. Each team is unique, Highland plays their players as long as their coach feels he needs to keep his players in shape to win another state championship. JC plays their players as deep into the games as Matney feels necessary to get them as deep in the playoffs as possible. JC may have a much bigger enrollment than HHS, but not nearly the depth. If it was not for JJ's temendous work ethic (lifting six days a week and running on saturdays and Sundays even after big games), 25 carries a night would not even be close to being prepared for Ashland, Belfry,Cov Cath, and Highland.

My kudos are out for him....it's not really about him....more about the coach. You don't need to have a kid of yours go grab a record by inflating his numbers against lesser opponents. It won't make Jude any less of an athlete.
