Agree. Kid is legit. Saw him 1st person at Johnsonville last year. Nothing he can do about how he is used.

I won't go as far as you as saying a record is illegitimate. The kid did what his coach said - run the ball. Sure, the coach had him in at times when he shouldn't and the coach sent the wrong message at times. However, we either quit keeping individual records or we all agree that there is no good way to say which one is legit and which one isn't and honor the kid that breaks the current record. I'm going with the latter.

Jude has the single game record now. I think he is going to crush the carreer record, and could quite possibly break the single season record IF he get at least five more games. All of this following a 3000+ yard junior season. He should be celebrated not criticised.

Team is up 35-0, less than 2 seconds to go and they call time out to try and score and throw a pass which doesn't work, Sportsmanship is Poor.

 

Trintiy at Male this past friday, also m the QB/RB played into the third quarter, and their highly talented WR played even more. I was there and have the game tape. I figured their Coach wanted to get to the runnng clock as quick as possible. Ask Manual about last years game against Trinity when the same team scored late in the game and stopped the clock to do so. Their AD was so upset he came onto the field and now will not allow his JVs/Freshmen to play Trinity. The varsity has to.

 

I post this after reading the Trinity's fans comments, great job JJ hope you break it and its the others team job to stop you.

 

I never mentioned anything on the Trinity/Male thread because I wasn't upset about Trinity stopping the clock and trying a pass right before the half, but c'mon. JJ desreves no one to say anything negative.

It's a double edged sword....sure we celebrate his accomplishments.....BUT, the coach should be admonished for his actions. It breaks the spirit of the record as well.

Rock, I always look forward to reading your posts but I disagree with your opinion on this. If you are up 35-0 going into the half, it is poor sportsmanship to stop the clock in order to get another score. It is very safe to assume that if you are 5 TD's better than your opponent for 24 minutes, you will ale to handle them in the second half. Now, this is a similar but different argument with regards to the rushing record but it still falls under the category of unsportsmanlike.

^ I was taught first half and first offensive series of the second half, are fair game to do anything to score. After that, is left to perception.

I think its important to see how you would feel if you are in the other shoe, no one who has any sense of fair play wants to be down 30+ points anytime and have the clock stopped by the team ahead and try to score again before the half, and have it happen back to back weeks at that, but also its our job to stop them which we did in the last weeks stoppage. Our team hasn't brought this up so we have moved on. Mama not pleased at all.

Well I am not a fan of Matney's technique, but I do understand them, this kid is tough he deserves all his acolades, and I for one am rooting for him to break and hold the record..... Not all programs get to win state titles every year or at least most years, Rockpride you guys are a little spoiled in that aspect, most kids that stick it out in your program will forever be down in the record books at least once out of four years due to a title....The kids at other programs such as Johnson Central well that is not the deal....so through Jude these kids can for a while at least say...see that name....I was there!! Good luck to JC and Jude in the record.....And lets also say its rushing yards he is chasing, probably a run up the middle at that, so not exactly throwing it deep and running trick plays..... or onside kicking it.

Again, we have gotten off the topic of the rushing record but to clarify my stance. I agree that, unless the first half score is in the 40's, trying to score is acceptable. Even leaving the 1's in for the first drive of the second half, fine with it. I am only in objection to stopping the clock to get a chance at another score. What is the saying, "Pigs get fed, Hogs get slaughtered".....? Something like that. Again, JMO.

What is worse?

A - Onside kicking when up by a ridiculous margin; OR

B - actively avoiding a kick returner to allow a score so the opponent kicks the ball back to you and you get to add 60 - 70 yards worth of rushing to the record; OR

C - taking a knee at 44-0 on a PAT to avoid running clock thereby allowing 1 more drive (and the rushing yards associated with that drive) while the clock is not running

Read my whole post I don't agree with all the methods I stated that, but It is a run..........a power run in a power set, when everyone knows he is getting it...play some defense....Or run offense that takes time off clock. What I have found in Kentucky there is a Catch to just about every record......If you really go back and look.
