I take responsibility. I guess I jinxed the Cards today. I was friendly to some Marshall fans I encountered at a rest stop on I-64. Tried to be a welcoming, nice Cardinal fan. Last time I chat up the opposing team's fans.

Ugly game all the way around. Louisville's offense never got going. Marshall's front dominated all day. One step forward, two steps back...

RM, if U.L. lost to Marshall there wasn't anything that you did tp jynx it. Just think how bad that makes U.K, look,lol. I live approxamately 20/25 mi. from Huntington and have to listen to our local news (which is out of Huntington) talk up "the Herd" everyday. They will be awful now, thanks alot U.L., LOL.

I honestly believe that if U.K. and U.L. would combine teams they still would have a losing record. Both are bad, really bad.

I heard the end of Coach Strongs radio show, he was VERY upset..."We had two weeks to get ready and we play like this!" Some of the playcalling was weird. Go up the middle on first down way too much. Defense played well enough to win, after the first drive, and the pick late really hurt. The bad punt didn't help. Where was the Wildcat? They needed this win to get a bowl chance, and now they have to upset one of the big boys.

D-1 football in the state of Kentucky is pretty bad right now.

 

At least Morehead won.

Growing pains. Best way to describe it. Still playing a lot of kids that need to grow up quick.

 

No Need for the Cards fans to plan a Bowl trip.

I would think not. Unless they make a Toilet Bowl, then we can get another UK/U of L matchup.

I don't follow UL all that close so I am not so sure about their bowl hopes. I do know that all were hearing about U.K. and how the Cats were going to "take the next step" and could contend in the SEC East, how the O line was so good and look at what we got.

Bottom line is that both UL and UK are pretty bad football teams. I actually think that UL will improve more and quicker than UK. I like C. Strong and think that he will get the Cards on the right track/bring better players in and continue to get better.

On the the other hand Joker has not brought in any or enough talent for UK to compete in D1, espescially in the SEC. I am talking about Joker's recruiting, or lack there of, bc he has been in the program for years and was known as a great recruiter. So what I am saying is that Joker has brought the talent that UK has got now even though he has not been the head coach all that long.

On a side note about the recruiting......and alot of UK fans were all over Tubby Smith about terrible recruiting,:lol:. That comparison just shows how far more emphasis is put on basketball at UK, imo the administration and fan base are satisfied with mediocrity in football.......... Example: UK can go to a lousy 6 win bowl game every few years or so and that is good enough. Let UK basketball miss the NCAA tourney and go to the N.I.T. and watch the fireworks.

Why is everyone so high on Charlie Strong? What has U of L done under him to inspire such confidence? Just like Kentucky, there's no reason U of L should be as bad as they are this year. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I have not been the least bit impressed by him as a head coach.

Last season's effort by Strong was very impressive I thought. That was, however, a senior-laden team and the number of true freshman that have started for Louisville is telling. If something terrible was happening that somehow none of us saw coming, I'd see a problem, but we're being exposed in exactly the areas we knew were weak before the year started, the offensive line and the defensive secondary.

 

Bad offensive line + true freshman/walk-on quarterback = offense that can't score

 

Nothing Strong can do about that equation except keep coaching them up and wait with the rest of us for the future.

 

I will say that I was thoroughly unimpressed with what I considered to be painfully conservative offensive play-calling and we'll see if anything is done about that in the next few weeks.

Not sure what you are looking for in him after 17 games.

 

I can tell you what he has done.

 

1. Had a winning season in his first year.

2. Landed a top 20 recruiting class in his first year.

3. Improved the level of play on defense and offense.

4. Over all value of the football program has improved.

 

He has two more years of Kragthorpes players on this team. They are not very talented in this JR/SR classes.

 

More quality recruiting along with the development of current players. Year 3 will be a good time to judge if UL has made real progress and Year 5 he will be graded on if he can coach or not. I believe every coach deserves 5 years.

I have my doubts about Strong, and I expected the team to be a little better than what I've witnessed to date. But, the points you make are fair. We'll see.

I just thought they'd be better than what they've been. You guys may be right. I was in your position once, defending Rich Brooks when many wanted him fired.
