Does LexCath have a RB as good as Gray? Does LexCath have an o-line as good as CCH's? I know Bolin is a good QB but if LC's line doesn't give him the time that Bir had, or if LC's line doesn't block for their RB like CCH's did, then it will be a lot harder going for LC against HHS, in my opinion.

Respectfully Bpicc I will disagree. I think it would be a closer game simply due to the fact that LC has some studs at the skilled positions and will score pts against the Colonels. I am impressed though with CCHs offense though. If there is a team out there that can shut out the Colonels I'd like to know who.

I didn't watch, but I listened. This one sounded like a game from end to end. I had to go buy a car with my daughter at the mid-point of the fourth quarter, and couldn't wait to get out of the car so I could make a phone call to find out the final. Deep down, I think everyone has known all along that the Birds were going to have an off day, and with the history here I think a lot of them felt like CovCath could be the team they had it against. The important thing is surviving and gaining the home-field advantage for the playoff meeting, if it happens. Whatever the case, one thing I took out of this is that CovCath could be scary next year on offense. Not sure how many linemen they'll graduate, but the QB and RB positions are looking pretty solid. My hat is off to the Big Colonels.

 

HHS didn't have an "off" day. They simply were matched up with a team that matches up well with them.

Watch the Lex Cath/ John Hardin highlights on ihigh. Again, they have a very soft defense but their offense is lethal.

The last NKY team to score 37+ on Highlands was CovCath in the 1997 playoffs (41-35 2ot). The last time it happened in the regular season was CovCath (42-6) in 1994.

With regard to how close/competitive the HHS-CCH game was yesterday, I do think a couple of things need to be kept in mind:

 

1. Highlands actually did win the game yesterday. CovCath has a strong team this year and they played well against HHS, and they could have beaten HHS yesterday, but HHS managed to win, which is what counts in the end.

 

2. If you look back at this series since 2006 (when CovCath last beat HHS), you will notice something, especially in years when the two teams played twice, with one game being at CCH and one game being played at HHS. In 2006, CCH beat HHS on a last-second TD pass at HHS in the regular season, then beat HHS by 10 points later that year at CCH (a game that was really not even as close as the score would indicate). In 2007, Highlands played CCH at CCH during the regular season and only managed to win 28-14, despite many people predicting a big blowout. When the two hooked up again at HHS in the postseason, HHS thumped CCH 40-0. In 2008, the teams only played once, and it was a 61-0 win by HHS at HHS. In 2009, the teams only played once (at CCH)... this was the year HHS beat Cincy St. X and arguably had their best team ever, and yet the margin was only 36-7; a lot of people were expecting HHS to wipe CCH out that year, which didn't happen. Last year was a bit different, in that the game was close and was at HHS. Since there was no game at CCH that year, we will never know how a game played at CCH would have compared to the 27-20 game played at HHS. However, I think the overall pattern is that the games at CCH tend to be closer in a given year than the games played at HHS. This postseason, a rematch would be held at HHS.

Highlands and CovCath never overlook the mountain teams. We know that in order to win those 30 plus State Championships that you must beat teams like Ashland.........................

Can we quit all of the hand the 4A trophy to Highlands talk now? I think it was proven today that nothing is certain in 4A.

 

The only thing that is certain when this type of outcome happens is that two best team again in the same classification again is Highlands and CovCath and that whoever wins the rematch in November wins the State Championship.

Somebody needs to post that stat.

Cream rises to the top. We are seeing that Rockcastle needs to be taken seriously. I haven't been following Ashland. Mainly because I believe they'd have to beat Highlands or CovCath to get to Boyle. How good is Ashland? What is their 2011 resume looking like?

LexCath has a very versatile offense. They have a qb who runs well, who throws vertically exceptionally well, Adam Bush has to be one of the top 5 receivers in the state, they have two great running backs and an offense that utilizes each and every talent that they have on offense. You can believe this is last year's LexCath team all you want...they can score with anyone when needed.

It's Highlands for the taking unless they kill themselves. Ex. Fumbles

I believe they graduate 4 linemen and Gray. Next year's group will be very hard pressed to be near as good as this current group.

I thought they said Gray was a junior during the game yesterday. That does put a different light on things.

Ashland is a team that has made a habit in recent years of ending their season in ugly fashion to NKY teams in the playoffs. Decent win against Rowan County, but if they handle Belfry and Johnson Central, then we'll talk credit.
