The Trinity/St. Xavier (OH) penalty situation

Featured Replies

For those of you that were at the game what is your opinion? I know some of you in the update thread thought there was some funny business going on.

Anyone?

I watched the game online...I saw 2 that I would say were questionable. I saw several more that the Rocks clearly could have avoided.

I would say there were three very questionable calls. Each for 15 yards.

Were there any questionable calls that went against X?

Just from watching the game online, I thought there were some questionable calls, but that is par for any game. I really don't think there was too much of a bias from the refs. After the horsecollar tackle on T to begin the half I don't think there was another called against T. X is going to get (or not get called for) calls at home, as will every team. I think it was pretty fairly officiated.

That one with Quick, the ball looked to be well past him when contact was made.

It was a heck of a game. Quit whining about calls one way or another.

The one against White was more out of confusion. RB wasn't sure if he was down and he kinda acted like he was going to keep going, so White hit him. I think it should have been overturned once the refs talked, but it was not a bad call against Trinity.

Not whining, discussing. Big difference.

There was not one penalty against X that was suspect.

Penalties

Trinity:7-65

St. X:2-10

I heard (unofficially) that for the combined 2 games (Elder & Cincy X), Trinity's opponents have a combined 20 penalty yards...which obviously means each team was penalized 10 yards for each game.

I thought the face mask on Trinity in the 2nd half was a bad call and that there was a tackle on Dawkins that should have been called a face mask. Other then that I just think it attributable to different "styles" of officiating and what crew in different places emphasize. The other thing thing is both Elder and St. X are very well coached and well disciplined. They aren't going to commit a lot of penalties.

I think there were only 2 calls against X. I believe they were delay of game calls. One call was ridiculoous. After an X player was tackled or maybe hit ground he then began to run toward goal. A Trinity player tackled him after the whistle had allegedly blown. However the game was officiated very well and the referees did not influence outcome of game.

I thought the play where the X player got up and kept running should have been flagged. From my vantage point, the runner did stop before he got hit. Then the T player came in and hit him. I don't think it was a dirty hit, just think it was early in the game and the T player was amped. I could clearly hear the whistle sound off from where I was sitting, FWIW.
