December 21, 200520 yr What is that built in advantage? And for the love of Jesus, please don't say the ability to take out of district players because as you KNOW FULL AND WELL, any public school can do the same. Thus, with every school having the same ability to accept out of district students, the fact that one school does it and another does not, does not give the school doing it a "built in advantage". So what is the built in advantage you are referring to? Amen!!!
December 23, 200520 yr I know that in Russell Little league Baseball, A child can be in the school district but not able to play on all-stars because he lives out of the little league district. Currently the school district and the district for playing on sports teams is different. I do know that this is a fact in little league baseball. This will affect my son's baseball this year. He can play all year with kids in his school for different sports but when it comes to allstars, he will not be able to play. I have heard that he can play in the Ashland league in allstars because of where we live. Live in the Russell school district, pay School taxes but can not be a part of the Allstars. Does this sound strange to anyone? This is the current rule.

Does this sound strange to anyone? This is the current rule. Not strange at all, as youth organizations like Little League are independent and have their own guidelines and regulations. Their areas are referred to as boundaries and if more than one programs exists in a county, than those boundaries are divided and yes, they will almost never match a school districts, city limits or corporate areas. Keep in mind that because any child lives out of the school's district but attends school their, has nothing to do with boundaries of Little League or most youth organizations which are completely separate.
December 24, 200520 yr What is sad is that my son lives in the school district, we pay school taxes for the school and he will not be able to play with his friends. This just doesnt seem right.
December 24, 200520 yr If you want to see a very successful independent school district then look no further then the Ludlow Independent School District. A very fiscally sound school district that is consistently ranked in the upper 25% in state test scores. And if you want to attend Ludlow and live outside the school district then the tuition is $250.00 and not in the 3000.00 to 4000.00 range as some would think. The residents of Ludlow would circle the wagons if the Kenton Cty School District even thought for a minute that they could ever convince the District to consolidate with the county.

I have to agree with Zig. Ludlow is an excellent example of a successful Independent School System. Naturally, I have to also add Beechwood to that list. Our city would also be ready to fight if the "C" word is ever considered.

This just doesnt seem right.Your are correct but keep in mind that youth league organizations have their own set of Rule and Regulations, which are established to eliminate players from playing out of their home address area and not in other cities, counties or programs. Schools are the exact opposite, you can pay tuition or have a county that is multiply divided into more than one boundary and regardless of where you attend school, you must play within those boundaries....your situation actually happens a lot across the state.
December 24, 200520 yr Could you imagine the sports teams if Paintsville and Central combined? WOW! That basketball team would be loaded. Paintsville really does a great job with the number of students they have. The qulity of coaching there is great! The same could be said of Hazard and Perry County Central. That would be one heck of a basketball program just about every year. Look what happened when Maysville consolidated with Mason County.
December 25, 200520 yr The ultimate would be Danville combining with Boyle County. Talk about a football team. I think one that would be ranked in the nation year i, year out! I know they would beat Centre College who resides in Boyle County!

The reason the costs would be so low is only because the school district the out of distict student is coming from has an reciprocal agreement. That means all the state money the "home" district would receive is instead given to the independent school district. If say Boone County district only agrees to give up half the state money to Ludlow then the student would be required to cover the rest of the cost of education. If not all these independent schools would go bankrupt. But there are some in NKY that get the full reciprocal amounts and charge thousands on top of it.Hint two of them have really great football programs.

Unsure about what other districts we may have similar agreements with.
January 1, 200620 yr But there are some in NKY that get the full reciprocal amounts and charge thousands on top of it.Hint two of them have really great football programs. So what's your point. If a parent wants to still send thier child to a particular school that you say still charges thousands after the reciprocal amounts( which by the way isn't what the School District charges where I send my child, and I would say is one of the two you are refering to) what's the problem. Or is it just another rub against your favorite targets.

Who releases their ADA money to Highlands? I am not aware of any district does and I know for a fact that their are sections of Ft. Thomas that are in the Campbell County school district and the Campbell County BOE will not release the ADA money for those schools to Ft. Thomas Schools?

Is Highlands willing to release their ADA money? I've heard some say they will and some say that they won't. I'm certain you would know.
