I can't believe that a coach is being looked at negatively for enforcing a team rule. Kudos to Coach Warner for keeping the same standard for all players at Ryle.

I see your point but rules take out judgment calls about legit and illegitimate

 

I am all for rules and discipline but this one is weak. You can't always make a hard nose blanket rule like missing a practice = not starting. If anyone honestly thinks this is a fair rule than they could not oppose a kid not starting because he missed practice due to funeral leave. I hate to use such a harsh example but this reason would fall under a rule in which a coach isn't willing to make a judgement on.

The guidelines that have been set to be a Ryle Raider Football player are demanding and tough. There are many testomonials from the young men who have put the uniform on the past nine years at Ryle that appreciate the demand it takes to be a Ryle Raider Football player. For example contact Conner Hempel at Harvard or Vince Murray at Navy or Tate Nichols at Notre Dame or Greg Schild serving our country in the Air Force or Ben Abshire serving our country in the Air Force or Nick Chamberlain serving our country in the Marines or each of the four Mace brothers that are serving our country- these are just a few examples of many that appreciate what it takes to be a Ryle Raider Football player. It is hard to believe that people actually complain about tough guidelines to be a part of something that succeeds and teaches life through football. I for one cannot wait until my son plays football for the Ryle Raiders and he will also appreciate the tough standards it takes to be a part of the team. Make it a great day!

Kinda funny isn't it. I guess all those high held words about discipline and what not go right out the door once you see what you are up against. So all those shouting praise in that direction should now be critical.

I commend Coach Warner for sticking to the rule no matter the player or star status. I would say a rule as strict as this one would come from his days in pee wee football playing for Robert Napier and the Blackhawks. My son plays for Napier now and he has learned a tremendous amount about football and discipline. While I don't always agree with Napier's methods these kids learn a great deal about football from him.

 

I played against Coach Warner in high school and always remember him as a class act and I would love for my son to play for him once he is in high school.

 

My comment on Coach Napier will have nothing to do with football. I have coached against him in another sport and found him to be the exact opposite of what you describe. I really looked forward to coaching against him, because of the reasons you described and found his teams to be the opposite, they were handed picked and undisciplined, and when they lost, they (coaches and players) did not know how to handle it.

History, you are attacking a living legend in Robert Napier. The man has taught great lessons about life to a tremendous amount of young men. He teaches them much more than how to play sports. He is "old school" and alot of today's helicopter parents just can't handle him. If I had a 1st grader, there would be zero thought of who he would learn the game from. Robert Napier is a man of integrity and teaches kids what life is all about, hard work and discipline. Travis Elliott is a product of Robert Napier and has had a great impact on why Travis is Travis today. I have heard many coaches tell me that when they see a kid with great football fundamentals, that he must have been a Blackhawk.

My son played for Robert Napier one year, and to this day is his favorite coach, even though he was the most disciplined. Old school is correct and I loved it!!
