In had diarrhea early this morning but I am fine now. However, I was informed just a little while ago that I cannot get into the Beechwood v. Holmes game tonight until the start of the 2nd qtr.

If he truly had "walking pneumonia" this week that made him sick enough to miss school and practice there is no way he is well enough to play in the 100 degree heat this weekend. Why just sit the first quarter I don't know? If it is a team rule about not starting due to missing practice I agree with as long as it is consistently applied it is up to the coach. Side note it is not hard to get a doctor's note for an "excused" absence even if you just have a cold so this might be why there is such a broad policy. Someone sometime took advantage and everyone suffers.

I can tell you this, whether you agree or disagree with Coach Warner's "miss practices and you sit rule" - he has had it throughout the program and has applied it consistently and fairly. It does not matter to him whether it affects an average player or the star of the team.

Personally, I don't particularly like the rule (it affected my son once ), but I totally respect the manner in which he enforces it.

Agreed! Also, you know it's killing Coach Warner on the inside not to have his stud player, who can match up to the players on Colerain, playing 4 quarters. Interesting to me too that we have a thread showing a coach and team lacking rules and discipline assualt a referee, yet when a coach has rules and a solid reign on a program we question his thinking.

The guidelines that have been set to be a Ryle Raider Football player are demanding and tough. There are many testomonials from the young men who have put the uniform on the past nine years at Ryle that appreciate the demand it takes to be a Ryle Raider Football player. For example contact Conner Hempel at Harvard or Vince Murray at Navy or Tate Nichols at Notre Dame or Greg Schild serving our country in the Air Force or Ben Abshire serving our country in the Air Force or Nick Chamberlain serving our country in the Marines or each of the four Mace brothers that are serving our country- these are just a few examples of many that appreciate what it takes to be a Ryle Raider Football player. It is hard to believe that people actually complain about tough guidelines to be a part of something that succeeds and teaches life through football. I for one cannot wait until my son plays football for the Ryle Raiders and he will also appreciate the tough standards it takes to be a part of the team. Make it a great day!

Coach , we simply disagree on this particular rule and how it's applied.

Rack this post Guru !!! Nice work Reis Alex !

I disagree. If the kid missed for health reasons he should not sit. Silly. A coach has to be able to discern between legit misses and illegitimate reasons. Essentially, you're telling a kid to show up sick or else.

Bingo!! as the 'Ru put it. There truly is no legit miss, especially when someone else practices in your place. People not showing up to practice for illness, this is how athletes lose their position....I guess you expect people who get hurt, when they come back they automatically start. That's bologna...

That's why number are down and will continue to go down at Ryle!

You ought to change your name and get off the "Ryle wagon"...

Thank you coaches for stupid rules like that that make sick kids go to school, putting the rest of the school population at risk for catching whatever the athlete had.

On another note---that is why I hate those school "perfect attendance" awards. Sick kids come to school so they can get the perfect attendance award...and other kids get sick because of it...and other kids miss school because Johnny or Suzie had strept/fever/diahrea/stomach virus, etc, but came to school anyway so they would not be marked absent.

Are you afraid of an outbreak of the plague?? How many silver spoons are in your drawer? If you take off work every time you get sick, your rear end would be fired and unable to afford this subscription to BGB!

See, I don't believe in cliched thinking: miss practice and you're out or a starter never loses their position due to injury. A coach's job is to make those decisions others can't or will not make. If Coach Warner thinks that the player had a legit reason to miss practice AND shouldn't have been at practice BUT he still feels he's the best player at that position then he makes that decision. If he thinks the illness and resulting missed practices hurts the team's chances then sit him the entire game. This happy medium solution simply fails the logic test .

I simply disagree with Coach Warner's decision on this and my reasoning seems pretty clear. You and Coach Warner disagree? Great.

I'm with Clyde on this one. I have the utmost respect for Coach Warner, but depending on the severity of the situation, this seems silly. Could be the old "built in excuse" for losing to the Cards. Can hear the post game comments from parents...well we tied them from the second quarter on when Travis was in there, but still lost by four scores.

To be honest, if they tie Colerain for 3 quarters I'll be impressed.

I commend Coach Warner for sticking to the rule no matter the player or star status. I would say a rule as strict as this one would come from his days in pee wee football playing for Robert Napier and the Blackhawks. My son plays for Napier now and he has learned a tremendous amount about football and discipline. While I don't always agree with Napier's methods these kids learn a great deal about football from him.

I played against Coach Warner in high school and always remember him as a class act and I would love for my son to play for him once he is in high school.
