sportsfan41
I don't know why, but for some reason this kind of made me sad, and I'm not even an avid Apple supporter, heck I don't think I own one Apple product.

It was due to health reasons, he said that he wrote a letter telling the board that he fealt he couldn't carry our his duties as CEO but still wants to be an Employee of the company. He's had pancreatic cancer since 2004 +/-. In the more recent pictures and videos of Jobs he hasn't looked very well. Here's hoping resigning will allow him an opportunity to make a full recovery. SvFan4life
Although he is not CEO is will remain with Apple on the Chairman Board. I read that Apple's stock dropped 7% after the announcement, but Apple will survive and nothing will be noticable about the change IMO.
titletownclown
He's had pancreatic cancer since 2004 +/-. Pancreatic cancer for 7 years?? Wow, that's incredible. I wish him all the best. He's one of the VERY few CEO's who have deserved the riches they've been paid.
cooperstown
Pancreatic cancer is a very tough disease, as symptoms don't usually present until the disease is well progressed. The 5-year survival rate is less than 5%. ; while the 1 year survival rate is only 25%. If the cancer has already metastisized (infected other organs) before being detected - and this is true in about 85-90% of patients, the median survival rate is about 6 months. My dad fell into that last category and lasted only 4 months after being diagnosed. It's a very tough and aggressive cancer. I couldn't say whether or not I'd really care for Jobs as a person but I've always enjoyed his enthusiasm for technology and his loayalty to Apple. He always seems to take technology where it has never been before. I admire his loyalty to Apple which I think had forced him out back in the 1980s. UKMustangFan
^Couple of my friends bought shares this morning due to the news. Should be interesting to see how long it takes the stock to recover. I'm thinking pretty quickly. :idunno:
SportsGuy41017
He has a rare form of pancreatic cancer, could be one reason is is still around, I am not sure what kind it is though. Plus he had his liver transplant about 2 years ago, not sure if that was realated to the cancer, not much information on what the reason he is stepping down. He had taken long medical leaves in the past, and has said if he ever felt he could no longer lead the company he would step down, so he must think he isn't going to recover. Irish Cat
So I'm sure everybody has already seen all the jokes going around about this, but my favorite so far is that Jobs final product created for Apple is the iResign.
