Asleep at the wheel in Mayfield?

Certainly not, but allegedly the driver of Mayfield's chartered bus last week feel asleep at the wheel, ran off the road, and struck a guard rail. I am told no one was hurt.

 

Scary stuff considering Mayfield hired a professional.

 

We used charter buses back when I played and I don't remember any problems. What was your experience using them?

Strange thing about it is where it happened, not on open country roads but on the edge of town. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the same company we have used for our charters for many many years and until Friday Night we never had any problems. Some of us parents were talking Friday night after it happened, well actually Sat in the wee hours of the morning, this could have been a horror story. I have a picture of it, I will post it later

They say that is when you need to make sure you are awake and alert, when you are within a couple of miles of your home or destination, as people tend to feel more comfortable, then that leads them to dosing off or other mistakes.

Not sure that has been determined yet to my knowledge.

 

To be clear, the driver fell asleep in Marshall County and hit the rail and recovered. Several miles out. The bus tire gave it up as they entered Mayfield. My wife got a picture that can be uploaded when she allows me to borrower her iphone

We have had this problem several times. We have had at least two charter bus drivers fall asleep at the wheel. Once the guy sitting behind the driver woke him up prior to him running off the road, then stayed awake all the way home to make sure the driver did the same. Last season we took a charter fan bus, and had the same issue, not only did he not know where he was going, but his head was nodding as he was driving and we had to watch him to make sure he stayed awake.

When I was at Morehead, we were playing in Atlanta and the lady driving the bus cut a corner short and clipped a telephone pole. After a brief profane burst, she was back on her game with only the back corner of the bus to show any abuse.

i was once on a charter bus leaving a music festival, he took the turn too wide and clipped the cop car that was in the middle of the road. he didnt know so he kept going, got pulled over by a whole squad and swears innocence, we get to the hotel and he cant pop open the luggage compartment because there is a huge piece of cop car jammed in there.

 

this was of course after spending 2 hours lost in ky...

We played a football game in Paris, France my Freshman year at Hanover. We took a charter everywhere. We didn't have any incidents, but it wasn't from a lack of effort by the driver.

I heard a lot of stories about that Paris trip and heard there were ALL Sorts of "incidents" on those buses. The stories I am familiar with were more player related than driver related.

Grant County had a charter bus take out the drive thru in McDonalds in Fort Lauderdale. The lady driver had trouble all week long. She took out the overhang of the drive thru on the way to the airport on the last day of the trip.

Western Ky University volleyball team awoke to driver collapsed over steering wheel in middle of night. The coach managed to get bus out of median, driver off wheel, and into the emergency lane. Driver was deceased.
