Russell, with the players that they have coming back plus some that they have moving back into the area.

^ you think Belfry over Russell, with all they have coming back, and the two beasts of lineman that they should have?

Just wondering...

We return our center, one guard, the first tackle off the bench who saw huge minutes throughout the season at various positions due to injuries and Seth Harvey returns to Russell after starting for at tackle for the St. X freshmen team this fall. We do have some holes to fill, but I think the O-line will be a strong point going into the season. Along with Kasey Clark, of course...

Is that "weakest" 4A vs. 3A vs. 2A vs. 1A ???

-OR-

Is that 2A in 2005 is "weaker" than it has been in recent years ???

I'll agree with one of those suppositions, but the other is just plain wrong

(IMHO)....

I'm saying that on a consistent basis, that the 2A Champs are generally weaker that the champs from the other 3 Divisions. :thumb: That is just a personal opinion and I think that if you polled most members on our site they would agree. Regardless, it is speculation! ;) PROGNOSTICATION

This does not take away from what Russell did and I would be the 1st one to congratulate the Red Devils on their State Championship. It is quite a task to beat that many good teams on consecutive weeks.

I think we hear this every year! Please come up with a new one! I guess in 78, 79, 85, and 86 3A was weak due to the fact that Russell and Belfry made it those years!

In some respects, you are correct! :thumb:

Sure, "speculating" that something is true is everyone's right. Heck, "speculating" the moon was made of cheese was rather popular many years ago...

Objectively though, the Win/Loss numbers between the classes have not supported your "consistent" supposition since I've been a member here. This includes the '02, '03, and '04 seasons (I don't know the '05 numbers yet).

Anything objective to support this judgement or is it another "prognostication" ??

2005 (A Champ) NCC vs (AA CHAMP) Russell I'll take NCC

2004 Beechwood vs Belfry - Beechwood

2003 Danville vs Belfry - I'll def. take Danville

2002 Mayfield vs Breathit - Mayfield by a bit

2001 Danville vs Bardstown push

2000 Danville vs Boyle Boyle, but heck their AAA now!

I'll take Beechwood in the 90s vs most of the AA Champs, probably would have to give it to Boyle in '99. Not sure about Middlesboro vs Caldwell in 98

If would definitely not be objective to say that you are correct!! :D;)

2005 NCC (slight edge)

2004 Belfry (slight edge)

2003 Danville

2002 Breathitt

2001 Danville (slight edge)

2000 Boyle

Its still subjective. I would give the edge to 2A in 4 of the last 6 years. The only team that was clearly better than their counterpart, was the 2000 Boyle Co team. 2001 -2005 I think and argument could be made either way.

I respect your opinion. Like I said, purely speculative. :thumb:

So you are saying that they were weak those years just because it was Belfry and Russell there those years?

You were talking about 4A vs. 3A vs. 2A vs. 1A, NOT the single top 2A team vs. the single top 1A team. :sssh:

LOL... why change the subject ?? It's OK, I'll bite...

2005 - slight edge to NCC

2004 - Belfry

2003 - Danville (but a better game than most think)

2002 - Breathitt

2001 - Bardstown (by a LOT)

2000 - Boyle Co. (by a LOT) and just as much 2A as anyone else that year !!

1999 - Boyle Co. over Beechwood

1998 - Middlesboro over Caldwell Co.

That's 5 - 3 in favor of 2A... but like you said, "purely speculative"...

;)

I think Belfry and Beechwood were about even in 2004, as were Breathitt County and Mayfield in 2002 ... Corbin would have been hard-pressed to have been a top-10 team in Class A that year.

And yes, 2A-west was that weak that year, especially after Owensboro Catholic's QB went down with an injury.

WVA Boy, I'll take this Russell State Championship team over NCC any day. Russell was more physical and had a better running game and would in my opinion spread the NCC defense. I also think the Russell defense is better than you think. Remember also those kids know how to win 27-2 the past two years. I believe you are disrespecting the quality of 2A football alittle bit. Contrary to what you think Russell, Belfry, Ft. Campbell, DeSales and OCath, not to mention Newport, Mercer Co. are pretty darn good. Your comparision of Newport and NCC are a little invalid because at the end of the year that score would have been alot different. Newport was clicking at the right time and coming together under a new Coach. I don't think 1A fairs as well as you may think!!!!

I agree :thumb: 2000 Boyle (15-0) played Danville (14-1) that year and won 47-0.
