Which State Champion has the best chance to repeat in 2006?

Featured Replies

Based on what a few of the X fans think, I'd say St. X has the best shot of repeating in 06

Yikes!!!!!!! :creepy:

Just remember CR, it was only last year that your boys got tossed from the playoffs by one of the NKY 4A'ers!

I'd be willing to bet that there isn't a single team in the NKY 4A district that wants Trinity in the district. As for 04, seems kind of like a fluke at this point doesn't it.

A fluke, likely... but it very well could mean the difference between Trinity having 16 titles and tied with Highlands, or Trinity having 17 and being all alone in first place (for all those who think that 2004 Saint X was just too good a team for Trinity to upset, consider the 2005 state 4A finals)!

Whether it was a fluke or not, on that night, Dixie had the better team. That's why they went on.

I don't know that we have to be considered a favorite just yet.,

Either Trinity or St. X will win the Class 4A state title since that is the trend so i would say Trinity would have the best chance. Lexington Catholic was senior dominated and i look for Belfry to reclaim the 2A title next year with all there talent returning.

^ you think Belfry over Russell, with all they have coming back, and the two beasts of lineman that they should have?

Just wondering...

I have considered this same senario. Then again, the disappointing early exit of 04' served as quite a motivator in 05'. I meant no disrespect to Dixie, they beat us fair and square.

I think Russell has a very good shot. They have several key players returning and IMHO 2A is the weakest division in KY HS Football.

I think we hear this every year! Please come up with a new one! I guess in 78, 79, 85, and 86 3A was weak due to the fact that Russell and Belfry made it those years!

Trinity wouldn't have been able to beat St. X last year, IMO. This year's St. X team was more talented, but last year's was on an absolute mission and was a monster in the playoffs. They didn't even play a single close game in the playoffs, unlike this year's team. And having Tronzo would have meant the difference between sacking Petrino (Savko) or allowing him to scramble for big yards at times.

Frankly, it doesn't matter who won the 2A title this season, whether it was Russell, Belfry, Owensboro Catholic or Fort Campbell or someone else. In the minds of some knowledgable football people, including myself, 2A is considered a relatively weak class.

At the same time, it doesn't take anything away from Russell's state championship, because they earned it with their play on the field.

Is that "weakest" 4A vs. 3A vs. 2A vs. 1A ???

-OR-

Is that 2A in 2005 is "weaker" than it has been in recent years ???

I'll agree with one of those suppositions, but the other is just plain wrong (IMHO)....

I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but...

I think Kentucky football in all 4 classes is weaker at the top than we saw last year and perhaps more.

:sssh:

The whole state was down this season ... that was evident early on.
