Those diocese scholarships, that were approved within the last year have been coming in handy for Holy Cross the last two years.

I just hate to see what it does to a team like Ludlow. I dont know if they were going to be any good, but if your best player transfers then the team will suffer.........

Its hard to say, I know it hurt girls basketball at Ludlow, and I am assuming that this isnt an isolated incident. Ludlow has lost a lot of decent football players over the years who have gone on to greener pastures, some greener than others......

They also lost Jacob Hatter to Bellevue this year.

Residence has changed. It happens everywhere. Kids and there parents want the best option they can get.

He was at Dixie as a Freshman.

Ludlow as a Sophmore while his younger brother was at HC as a Freshman.

Now they are both at HC.

 

In the last year Mclendon transfered successfully

A Baseball/Football player from Scott transfered after limited varsity action, he had to sit out until May 1 for baseball.

I would bet Pouncy will be eligible based on this history.

Do what the girls do say they can't get along with the other girls and the State makes them eligible.

I hate to see any kid missing a chance to experience the gift which is HS sports. Not knocking HC in any way.

I would imagine he got a scholarship.

 

Amazing how the doors of Holy Cross have opened wide over the last two years once the Diocese started allowing for a certain number of scholarships to be given out in urban areas for a select few parochial schools.

 

They tried to lure a couple of kids who were to be freshman this year to take one of these scholarships and attend Holy Cross.

 

That well had dried up for a few years and now they have been wide open the last two summers.

 

I am not saying this is right or wrong and parents have that right and when the opportunity presents itself it has its advantages for both parties.

It is an advantage but the scholarships dont just go to athelets.

I wish i had the numbers, but I know for a fact that the it is spread out evenly. The principal at Holy Cross might be the most fair man I have ever met.

This is no different than when a coach would drive a van and pick up kids each day from Avondale. This happened only a short time ago, I think within the last decade anyway. So now they're doing it on this side of the river. Big Deal.

Speaking in general terms and having no idea about this particular situation, I believe scholarships to private schools are a gray area that needs to be very closely scrutinized. Personally, I have very big concerns about any athlete receiving a "needs based" scholarship. There is too much gray and too much opportunity for abuse. If I were the KHSAA, there would be a very, very high level of proof and documentation required to get any transfer receiving a scholarship eligible.
