I can vouch for that. Williams will surely win one of the northern most counties in the state - Boone Co - and it likely won't even be close. Put an R after your name and you are guaranteed to win. I would guess half the elected officials in Boone County were at one time Democrats but switched to R so they would be able to get elected there or keep getting elected.

Yes, but it could be fairly said that Lucas was a DINO. His time in office spanned that of Boone County's transition, and he would have no chance at election today as a D. By the same token, he would probably also have switched to R long ago if he had come up in today's political age. That he didn't read those winds correctly is what cost him against Davis.

Bruton & Nascar are playing politics with the state. They want them to spend some money and they will. One of the few races that have sold out this year and they say they may not come back...really ? Traffic problems getting into Nascar races is not something that just started at Kentucky. First couple of races at New Hampshire was a nightmare. Traffic to the tracks in Atlanta & Michigan were terrible for years, but they got the problems worked out.

I understand the state's stake in it. But I don't see anyone calling for a legislative session to solve the parking/traffic issues associated with Thunder Over Louisville or Derby, which annually draw bigger crowds than this race did.

But nothing draws 130,000+ people (with many bringing RV's and extra vehicles) into one tiny location like this race. And the traffic mess around those other events couldn't possibly compare with what we witnessed here.

Bruton Smith is the Atlanta owner as well. He brought a race from Atlanta to Kentucky. Bruton is a chronic complainer but it seems to work, and he gets things done with state and local authorities.

 

The President of the Michigan track ripped Kentucky Speedway. That track is owned by the France family (Nascar).

I would be hesitant to discourage something that can bring in huge dollars to KY.

^ Me too. That's why I think Williams' stance on casino gambling is ridiculous.

 

Let's get the Speedway infrastructure issues fixed before the Nascar powers-that-be decide that the Kentucky event is one-and-done.
