July 7, 201115 yr Obituary for Matthew Bohmer Obituary for Matthew Ralph Bohmer Matthew Ralph Bohmer 43 of Florence passed on July 5th. He was an English Teacher at Gilbert A. Dater High School in Cincinnati; Beechwood High School and Dixie Heights High School. He coached the Lloyd H.S. freshmen football team; Beechwood H.S. freshmen football team and was also head varsity basketball coach; Dixie Heights H.S assistant varsity football coach and freshman basketball coach and Wyoming H.S assistant varsity football coach. He was also soccer, softball and basketball coach for his kids teams at Blessed Sacrament. Matt played Bengal Tigers-little league football; Covington Turners-little league basketball; Saint Augustine-grade school basketball; Boys Club-little league baseball; Beechwood H.S.- football, basketball and baseball. Matt also played baseball all four years at Northern Kentucky University. Beloved husband of Melissa A. Bohmer (nee Cornett) of Florence, loving father of four children Tabitha Tirey; Isaac Bohmer; Hannah Bohmer and Chloe Bohmer all of Florence. Beloved son of LaVerne Bohmer of Florence and loving brother of Joan Fischer-Cain of Taylor Mill. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph W. Bohmer in 2009. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Middendorf Funeral Home Ft. Wright With a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10:00 AM at St. Augustine Church in Covington. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Ft. July 7, 201115 yr Matt was the head basketball coach at Beechwood in 2000, the year that the Brossart Mustangs won the 10th Region Championship and advanced to Rupp to play in our first ever KHSAA State Tournament. While there we upset heavily favored Graves County before losing to Russellville in the quarterfinals. At the conclusion of our state tournament run, I published a short story entitled "The Miracle Millennium Mustangs." Don't know how Matt got ahold of a copy but he made a point of calling me and telling me what a great job I did of capturing the entire experience, and made copies of it for each of his players at Beechwood so that they could relate to a small school actually living the dream of playing in the Sweet Sixteen in an unclassified basketball state. Matt was always trying to get better - to learn more. He wanted to be the best that he could be and wanted the best for his players and team. I'm sad to say that I had lost track of him in recent years and embarrassed to say that I didn't even know that he was sick, until reading his obituary today. This is indeed a sad day for the BGP family and the Northern Kentucky community.
July 7, 201115 yr I really hate to hear of Matt's passing. I had the privilege of getting to know him through guru and spoke with him several times over the last three or four years. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, Matt stayed positive and upbeat as long as he could. My son got to know him as well, and has often asked how Matt was doing after he found out he had cancer. My son really like spending time with him and talking sports. Matt caused that by taking an interest in my son and asking him how he was doing in football and telling him he was going to be great someday with out ever seeing him play. Matt uplifted my son merely by talking to him. That is a testament to what kind of person Matt was. While talking to Matt about his kids, you could see the passion in his eyes. I know without a doubt that Matt was a good father without ever seeing him interact with his kids. You could just tell. I know many knew Matt much better then I can say great things about him, but in a short amount of time that I knew him, I came to like him, and can't tell you how many times I have thought about him, or asked guru about him. I have thought about him a lot and was dreading this day, knowing it was coming. I'll miss Matt. A Great guy.
July 7, 201115 yr I became friends with Matt while attending college at NKU. He was one of those guys who was nice to everyone and was so much fun to be around! I feel so blessed to have known such a great guy! His family is in my thoughts and prayers!
July 11, 201115 yr Matt was an outstanding guy. I was very fortunate and blessed to have him as a teammate at NKU many years ago. He was an outstanding baseball player and individual. Prayers go out to his family and friends.
July 11, 201115 yr A very touching funeral, when his four children somehow managed to read the prayer's of the faithful. Absolutely broke my heart. Matt was good guy and real role model for the kids he taught and coached.
