There is more to it than ticket sales, IMO but that is a part of it. The Cosby Show proved that a predominately black sitcom can flourish. Denzel Washington has shown that a black actor can flourish in any role. Halle Berry is another. Is there even a black sitcom on a major network besides The Cleveland Show? It can be done. Columbus Short could play every role that Matt Damon does just as well as Matt Damon but without the same opportunities we'll never know.

Jason Bourne was a white dude in the books, so if Columbus Short could pull off that one I would love to see it

We'll agree to disagree then. I agreed money is a part of it but go through your tv sometime and look at disporportionate amount of black tv shows not on BET, TBS or CW. There are plenty of garbage shows given a chance on major networks every year. A show like The Game or even Tyler Perry's show Meet the Browns would do great on a major network. Would do better than a lot of shows currently on the air on these networks. These shows make enough money to get aired on cable channels. Why aren't these shows on major networks? The new show on VH1 with Stacey Dash and LisaRaye called Single Ladies. Why on VH1? Black actors and actresses have wondered this aloud for many years and still are. I think it is a legitimate question. As hard as Hollywood had pushed the liberal agenda they have also done all they can to minimize roles for black actors and actresses in Hollywood as well. I think there is a mountain of evidence proving this true. If they can admit in confidence they have a liberal agenda am I to believe there aren't powerful racists in Hollywood? I think that is a naive train of thought to believe they discriminate against conservatives but not blacks.

The piece of evidence I will agree on is in regards to all of the crappy shows/movies with white people in them. However, instead of of being discriminatory I'd say it's poor decision-making and judgement. The only way you could be correct is if some exec said "I like both shows but I'm white so let's go with the one with all of the whites in it." They try to make decisions off of what they think will draw the most eyeballs. You may not like the fact that in their judgement they think white actors and actresses will draw more than a show with lots of color but the decision is still being made on the basis of eyeballs which translates to ad $$.

 

Could they indeed have successful shows/movies filled with black actors and actresses? Maybe so. Maybe they are simply wrong in their assumptions of an audience but it's not with malice towards black folk.

I understand your point and could see that being the case for some situations maybe even most situations. I could also see an exec saying "I am going with the show with all the whites in it" also. I don't think every situation is cut and dry clear of racism.

I never said there weren't black actors and actresses but most of these actors do indeed play supporting roles in major films that don't have a predominately black cast. Some are also comedians first and actors second. How many are pulling in 20 million a film or 5-10 million per sitcom episode?

 

I am not a Tyler Perry fan either but he is getting work to black actors.

Ice Cube is pretty good too along with James Earl Jones and Sidney Pointier.

Couldn't you say the same thing about the Tyler Perry shows? They only contain African-Americans.
