You have a college-aged child. He/she will most likely "experiment" when they go to college.

As a parent would you be more concerned if you found out they were smoking cigarettes or if they were smoking weed?

Weed -could be something they try and like for a little and abandon after experimenting.

Cigarettes- could more easily be turned into a life long habit. I guess it could happen with weed too but clearly cigarettes are more addicting. I think the only difference is that weed is illegal. Take the legal part out of the equation and I think cigarettes are worse to get involved with.

I'd be more afraid of the nicotene.

I must say, Clyde, that I am surprised with the apostrophe in the title.

I think I would have to go with this logic based off what I have seen and experienced.

For those that said cigarettes was it the illegality?

It would be for me. And the culture of the community I live in. I'll take cigarettes any day. And that would be long-term or by trial. Long-term I don't even see it as a question from my point of view. How many productive college students are huge stoners? Compare that to smokers.

Why do you assume that weed smokers are huge stoners?

Where did I say that? If you're going to compare smoking weed and smoking cigarettes, you have to say the two groups in question use the products in a similar amount. If the question is would you rather your student smoke weed a few times in college or become a smoker in college, I think most would choose their child having a college experiment over a long-term habit.

Without saying the question is similar in use, I think that is like asking a guy if he'd rather have a kiss from Eva Longoria or spend the weekend with Jessica Alba. Your initial question concerned smoking weed, which I would take as a habit which could lead to poor use of money, poor study habits, poor attendance in class, and maybe potential problems with the law.

Clyde, I'm not saying this is how everyone should feel. Just how I do from the experience of being in college recently and knowing people who have ventured down both paths.

The question did not assume equal use. I think many parents' initial reaction would be any weed smoking is worse than smoking cigarettes. I am not sure if I feel that way.

What stats do you have that show that they will "most likely experiment"? I never tried smoking cigs or weed in college.
