The way I see it, if you're at war, whatever lands you acquire are yours until someone else takes it from you.

...well Israel wasn't even a proper nation until 1948. It was really just a collection of villages and landowners scattered along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. The Arabs had otherwise ruled over that land for centuries up to that point, and then Israel (with the backing of the League of Nations) just said, "Okay, this isn't yours any more, it's ours."

 

Actually it was the Turks at that point, not the Arabs. They are distinctly different ethnic groups.

He is nothing more than a bully. A bully who knows what buttons to push. I'll give it to him, he's very good. He understands the dynamics of domestic politics in the US and uses them to his advantage. He has no intentions of trying to make a lasting peace with the Palestinians and the peace process will only go backward while he is in office.

Absolutely not. But at what point should Israel have to give back the land they took 40 years ago?

In regards to the major chuck of disputed land - the West Bank - the country Israel took the land from has formally relinquished it and terminated the citizenship of the residences. The land was under control of Jordon in 1967. In 1988 Jordon terminated its rights and indicated it ceded the land to the PLO. And it formally terminated the citizenship of the residents. Since the PLO has turned into the ill organized Palestinian Authority. So the original 1967 'owner' does not want the land back.

 

As to who declared the war - well - it was the Israelis. They launched a preemptive multi-front surprise attack. There is even a book named 'Surprise Attack' about it. I read it as part of a political science class. The Israeli claim was Egypt, Jordon and Syria were going to launch an attack. The Egyptians had already kicked out the UN functions in the Sinai and were supposedly massing for the attack. Whether the Arab nations were really going to attack is not clear. So officially, it was Israel that started the war.

Oh yeah. They are far, far from blameless. They can't come up with a leader that can effectively negotiate and speak for all Palestinians. Suicide bombings don't do much for their cause, either. There is plenty of blame to go around, but Israel can rectify the situation- they just choose not to.

How does ISRAEL rectify the situation. If they give them land, then the PLO will want more. The terror will never end between these two.

I agree the Arab nations were going to 'gang up' on Israel with a multi-front war. Without air superiority Israel had no chance. So it took out the Arab air forces and then mopped up from there. And it go its buffer zones that it needed to avoid a surprise ground attack. Egypt had the only decent army in the region. That is why the Arabs hated Sadat for making peace. No other country could go it alone and hence why Jordon just gave up the West Bank. Now with the Muslim Brotherhood taking over Egypt things could get interesting again. Iran is the pot-stirrer right now.

Maybe Israel should have told Obama to give America back to the Native Americans. We did them worse than any nation has done anyone. We gave them diseased blankets, stole their land, killed their families, paid money for scalps. Yeah the US should be telling Israel to give back land. HA HA HA
