Sure, but outside the United States, Israel is viewed as the instigator. Such a concession would likely draw a lot of folks back into their corner. If Hamas and Hezbollah were to continue attacks even then, Israel would most likely have worldwide support for re-occupation.

 

This is the only thing that has a chance of working. We've tried Israel's way for years. Their land-grabs have done nothing but upset and enraged the Muslim world and provoked attacks. It's time to try something different. And by something different, I mean abiding by UN resolutions that are over 40 years old. I'm not saying the Palestinians are blameless, but I think it's high time we try another route to peace.

This is part of being the US President. Since WWI the US has become the "world police" for a variety of reasons and every US President since then has done the same thing Obama is doing here. I can agree with you on the "giving an inch" point of view, but the inherent problem is the fact that Israel has been working to take inch after inch for like 65 years now - and largely with big brother United States watching their back while they do it.

How many times do you see a war fought like this (specifically a country being directly threatened at their borders) where the countries that won said "Hey, take this land back"? Israel is one of the only ones that has ever done that that I can even think of, giving the entire Sinai back to Egypt when they reached a peace accord.

That would be fine if they stopped. But they continue to take more and more land. Plus, they did give the Sinai back to Egypt, so why not give the West Bank back to the Palestinians?

Of coarse it wasn't. It is what it is. I'm not the one on here saying Israel should give back the land. Like Dragonfire said, the Arab world declared war on Israel. The problem is they didn't win. Now they want back what they lost. It's easy for you to say it isn't right but Israel is smack dab in the middle of hostle terriorty. Most in the ME either publicly or privately hate them and want them gone. If Palenstine wanted that land so bad they shouldn't have picked a fight with someone they couldn't beat.
