Pendleton County Teacher Suspended for In-Class Knife Incident

Featured Replies

Lets turn the situation around. If this was a student who pulled a knife out in class, what would happen to him/her? Would it be a "mental mistake"?

Anyone know if this guy used to coach girls basketball?

I hope not... That would be our guy.

I would be extremely shocked to hear that he would do something like that. Just doesn't seem to fit.

You're right, he stop being a Bengal fan a couple years ago...

On a serious note, I don't think he would either.

Remember when the issue would have been the kid giving the teacher the finger? My dad really might have cut mine off.

The gentleman involved has never coached as far as I know.

In talking to several parents, this is what I was told.

He used poor judgement in what he did, but the kid involved is a jerk.

PCMS has been testing this week. The teacher who was suspended went into a classroom to give the classroom teacher a chance to go to the restroom.

The kid involved flipped off the teacher. As the article said "a mental mistake" (poor judgement) was made.

I assume that knives are against school policy. Any reason why this teacher had one on him?

I was in this situation as a substitute teacher in South Carolina. I was to give a test and this particular student didn't want to take the test. He got in my face and I gave it right back at him. He didn't take the test and after class I went to the principals office to report it. The principal told me to stay away from the kid. They knew he carried a weapon but there was nothing they could do. This was before metal detectors and shootings in schools.

It was a rough school . One day there was a riot. Fortunately it was during lunch and I was able to get to my room and close the doors. The doors locked so you could not get in after they were closed. I could hear desks flying and people screaming. I was lucky I was in my room alone. Waited it out.

Don't know what the situation is now at the school. I'm sure the same stuff goes on all the time all across the country and you never hear about it.

WOW! Glad you were okay! How could they not do anything about him bringing a weapon to school even if they knew?

I would question why the teacher had a knife on him to begin with. In our school, that would be against school policy.

I was thinking the same thing.

Different time I guess. They felt if they didn't stir the pot with the kid , he would graduate and he wouldn't be their problem. This was also a school system that hired student school bus drivers. Students would drive the school buses as a part time job.:scared:

There were always incidents on the school buses. Lots of fights. I don't think you could find an adult in the entire state that wanted that job.
