May 5, 201115 yr Lets not go jumping off bridges here people. You can't win it every year. They looked bad very bad and they probably aren't going to win it this year. There will need to be some serious changes with that roster next year. Pau literally makes me sick to watch him play. I turned it off in the 4th and went to bed with like 10 minutes left that is how mad I was. Dirk making literally everything he throws up doesn't help much. Like someone said before I don't know how Kobe doesn't shot more honestly. Other than Bynum no one can do anything. As for Kobe winning another ring... Howard is going to end up on the Lakers one way or another at some point. If they have to give up Bynum and Gasol for Howard I see no way the current team or a team they can build will win a title. Howard would have to get alot better offensively because Kobe doesn't have many more years of being really good to the point to where he's a matchup nightmare for any team. Kobe's deal will kill this team going forward, especially if they trade for Howard this summer. Don't know how possible that is but they are going to be less flexible than the Heat.

But, if they can land Howard there's a decent chance they could add some other pieces because it would be an attractive destination. I don't think trading Gasol and Bynum for Howard would be a terrible move for either franchise. The Lakers run is likely over with this group and if the Magic think Howard is gone, why not get some value in return. And, if you're LA, there's no point in having both Bynum and Howard on your roster. There's no way they could play on the court together. Just some initial thoughts on the idea. I wonder if LA will end up trying to pull a Miami Heat deal where they clear the cap space and try to land 2-3 stars, beginning with Howard.
May 5, 201115 yr ^ It's possible, that is the new formula for success in the NBA. Ainge started it when he brought the big 3 to Boston, now every team is trying to clear the slate and go all or nothing. Miami went with that formula (although signed Bosh and James instead of trading), New York is going with that formula, Bulls went with that formula (Boozer, tried to get more) ,even the Nets are going with that formula. Basically the principle now is to get rid of anything of value you have and either get in return cap space to sign a super star player or a super star player. This is tricky because you may end up with nothing to show for your efforts and it could sit your franchise back for years, especially when you start to give up future draft picks and young talent (ie. Al Jefferson, Jeff Green, Gallinari, Chandler, Beasley, Dorell Wright, Devin Harris, Derrick Favors) I mean all those guys mentioned are guys who can be solid pieces in a move forward, so when you move them you hope your investment is going to pay off. Luckily the Lakers won't have much of a problem because they are always going to be a marquee destination. Only trouble for them would be to clear the cap/roster space, once they do that they too can utilize this new formula for success. In a way I kind of like it and I alluded to this in the young teams thread I started a couple weeks ago. Its setting the league up to be the teams who are packaging superstars (primarily you big teams, ie. Celtics, Knicks, Lakers, Heat, Bulls) against the teams who are building from the ground up and growing players, teams like the Thunder, Grizzlies, Clippers, Blazers, Pacers, Sixers, etc. You can argue the Bulls are doing a little of both, drafted Rose, Deng, Noah, and Lucas, brought in Boozer, Bogans, Korver, Brewer and others. I kind of like that because either way theres going to be some good teams in the NBA for years to come. I like it because the big market teams are rising from the ashes, but the smaller market teams are still building and being competitive. Looking forward to the next ten years I think winning an NBA championship is going to come down to who can assemble and keep the biggest group of egos in check (New York:Amare and Melo, Miami Big 3, etc.) or the teams who were able to build through the draft, develop, grow, and keep guys under contract (similar to the Spurs in building foundation with Duncan, Manu, Parker, Bonner, etc)

Gasol and Bynum for Howard and a bad contract is about as good as either team can hope for. Without the combo of Gasol and Bynum I think Chicago can and will top LA's offer. And if you have Howard and Odom that should be good enough to be competitive.

There's no one to match him up against defensively (Not Dirk, not Kidd, etc.) He only hurts the team when he's been in because he can't shoot worth a crap. Keep Lamar in the game and start him from now on...it's as clear as day to me.
