Defense wins championships boys!

Catholic's defense may be fast but they will not be as physical as Russell.

jman69, Thanks for the info. It will be an interesting game with a BIG contrast of styles!! In what other states has his offense been used to win the Championship? How many schools does he consult with?

I was wondering how Russell compared to OCaths previous opponents. Is Russell like DeSales, Trigg, Fort Campbell, or anybody else on the Aces schedule? What do they do the same or differently? I know Russell lost a key player to injury, how does that effect there offense or defense?

So is this the last three or four weeks that Catholic is not as physical as their opponent and will lose because of it, I will go back and check.

I can give you a little info on DeSales. They were the biggest and probably the most physical team that Corbin played this year(Corbin played some teams you may be familar with in Bell Co., Southwestern, Middlesboro, Pikeville, South Laurel), but they seemed to be limited offensively without much big play capability.

From watching Owensboro Catholic play last year, one thing you can count on is that they will score some points. There were several times in the semifinal game last year that I thought Corbin was about to seize control of the game, but O-Cath would make a big play to turn the momentum. Russell needs to control the clock and then finish the drives with TD's because they will need every score they can get to beat O-Cath.

This game should be very close unless one team turns the ball over several times.

I got to pull for Russell on this one.

It takes talent beating the two time defending state champs.

Lets go Russell!

Defense does win championships. Aces 34 Red Devils 7.

Catholics defense is kind of weird. A team can march all the way down the field and then get inside the red zone and they move backwards. OCath may give up 200 - 300 yards rushing but they may only allow 7 points. A lot of people like to talk about last years state game against Belfrey. Belfrey rushed for over 500 yards but only got in the end zone once in the second half. The Aces made two goal line stands to keep themselves in the game. The Aces defense is tested, tough, and gutty. Both of these teams average around 39 points a game, but I will guarantee neither gets there on Saturday. I don't remember what I predicted for the game on the deleted thread, but my prediction now is OC 28 Russell 14.

Hey Blue - Hoover HS in Alabama has been using Franklin's offense for several years - they have won the state title 4 out of the last 5 years. I was thinking he "consults" around 40 schools throughout KY TN AL, but I am not 100% sure. Last year was amazing, he came in after O.C.'s fourth game(?) or so and you could tell an immediate difference - by the end of the year - the offense had made a 180 degree turn. Given the right players - his "system" is very effective - but it is not for everyone.

With rain and maybe snow in the forecast for Saturday, how will the weather affect this game. A wet ball is harder to hang on to. This applies to throwing, catching, handing off, and just hanging on when you get hit. Turnovers and fatigue will be huge in this one.

Hoover H.S. is serious!!1 I saw them early this season on ESPN! Wow his system must take alot of athletes to run it. Are OCath rrecievers athletic and big like Hoovers?

I would think not Hoover was unreal they would take any team in Ky IMO.

OCaths recivers are not big but they are athletic with great hands. The unsung hero of this offense is Nick Norcia. He has turned into quite a player. When a team can put two very good receivers on the outside and then have tide end sit in the middle of the field they become very difficult to defend. Knock on wood, but Holland, Johnson, Ijames, Kamuf, Wright and Norcia have not dropped many passes this year. Very sure handed pass catchers. All of these names have also shown the ability and want to block somebody if they have to. Skill players blocking comes down to desire and these guys have shown great desire when OCath has the ball.
