Ive seen it stated that teams have "purchased" Franklins offense.

Is that a litteral statement - a school pays money, or coach does, or boosters? Just wondering if I read that correctly.

LOL - you got it right, Woodrow. Franklin "sells" his system, as if it were not possible to break it down on film to learn it. Without a doubt, having him sell it to you would greatly speed up the learning curve, but he actually makes his living selling it to different schools.

 

He also lets the school pick (I believe I have this right) up to three other schools that are blacklisted, so that, effectively, he gives you a noncompete guarantee that he won't sell it to your rival.

I thought Tony Franklin was a Kicker for Texas A & M and the the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tony is a fantastic coach and really helps these schools out. He is a football genius and has really helped make Catholic what they are today. I am not saying Catholic wouldn't be as far as they are but he has, as you said, sped up the process.

As far as how much he gets paid I am not sure, I think there was an article in the USA Today a few months ago about him and I think they mentioned that, but I could be wrong.

 

I know a lot of people don't like the idea of this but he really does help these kids. He made Zach Barnard a much better player and really helped refine his skills as a QB, not to mention he helped start Woody on the right path to being a good QB. People also need to realize this is his business, a good one at that, and he is just taking advantage of a gift he has.

I have no problem with his making money from his area of expertise. That is exactly how most of us earn our income.

 

On the other hand, I tend to view what he is selling as a fairly publicly available product (rather like buying bottled water). That said, we live in a free market economy, and if there is a market for his product, and they can (and are willing) to meet his price, who am I to argue?

I think you are right. From what I have heard, he is more of a consultant. This would be no different than if a business hired a "consultant" to help them with their business procedures.

 

Last year Coach Franklin was more involved. This year, if I understand correctly, yes, he's on the sideline, but he's on the sideline as a "friend" -- not as a consultant. I could be wrong, but that's what I am hearing.

I also think you can look at it as an extension of a coaches clinic. All coaches from across the state attend coaching clinics for a fee to learn "tricks of the trade." I know that Coach Franklin hosts clinics for a fee, however, I guess he takes it a step farther to include consulting.

Very true and there are schools that try and just copy that product from watching film but I don't think they would have as good as success because you don't have the input as to what you are doing wrong. No disrespect to most high school coaches but Franklin is a great football mind and not only can he get you the system but he has an advanced knowledge of the QB position which most high school coaches don't have.

If and I said IF OCath could win a state championship I wonder how that may affect his financial situation with selling his system to other schools. OCath would be his so called 1st state champion using his "stuff"! His being on the sideline as a friend I'm sure is probably also a good business decision as well! And by the way I have no objection to him being there ,I think it is smart on his part to show how close he is to the teams that pay his bills. I also heard that the material is also available on the web? I don't know if that is true or not? I know that he has been to Raceland which uses his system as well!

Hey Blue - I don't think this would be his first state championship. Franklin does "consults" many schools. Quite a few are out of state. Probably would be his 1st Ky championship though. I know he was consulting for E-town 2 years ago when they beat Catholic for Semi's.
