A Great Tradition Ruined

Featured Replies

I don't know about you guys but my favorite sports day of the year is the Reds Opening Day/NCAA Championship game day.

Somehow until today I didn't realize that the Reds opener is now on the Thursday prior to the championship game

A good tradition down the drain.

To much in one day for me. I think each deserve it's own day, I like it.

I like it better the way it will be now. I can go to bed whatever time I want now after attending all the Opening Day festivities.

That's because you are getting old and can't handle all the adult beverages like you used to.

In all honesty I used to miss the basketball game when I was younger because I had too many adult beverages.

I didn't miss it but I sure would not be able to give a breakdown after the game.

I'm usually there with you...

Happened to me a few times.

About ten years ago I went to watch the Bulls and Pacers play on Sunday afternoon. Watched Wrestlemania Sunday night. Watched opening day Monday afternoon then watched the NCAA Championship that night. The greatest 48 hours of my life.

I too have missed a moment or two of an NCAA Championship game working on a mid-evening, post opening day nap. But....never let it be said that I went against a brother COLONEL. Clyde, I agree completely.

I agree, I always looked forward to that Monday.

When was the decision made to change this, and why?

I would assume last season. The reason is they want to do away with November baseball.

Does this mean the Reds go back to their rightful place as the first game of the season, or will ESPN demand a Wednesday night baseball opener?

There will be 2 games underway before the Reds first pitch at 2:10.
