A Great Tradition Ruined

Featured Replies

I didn't miss it but I sure would not be able to give a breakdown after the game.

Me neither, and considering my team hasn't played in it since 1998, I didn't really care. I will miss this tradition as well Clyde.

To much in one day for me. I think each deserve it's own day, I like it.

I'm kind of with you, it was really cool in the past, especially if there was a chance UK would be in it. This way I just have a reason to take another day off.

When was the decision made to change this, and why?

MLB did it because of the cold, winter weather during the World Series. I'm not sure that moving up Opening Day a few days will help, but it should keep the WS in October...

Al Gore said global warming would eventually make the last couple days of October warmer, especially in the north east.....

I don't know about you guys but my favorite sports day of the year is the Reds Opening Day/NCAA Championship game day.

Somehow until today I didn't realize that the Reds opener is now on the Thursday prior to the championship game

A good tradition down the drain.

Tradition? Really?

In the history of the two events how many times have they coinsided?

Tradition, smadition.

One of the best things about baseball is trying to preserve history and maintain tradition.

While it is only a week, attempting to move the end of the season out of November is a step in the right direction. I have never fully understood the perceived right of the Reds in the first game tradition.

First pro team plays first pro game of the season (used to, anyway, thanks to ESPN).

Personally, I'd rather the most interesting match-up be the first game.

Game 1 of 162 most interesting match-up for ESPN is Yanks- Red Sox, they should have the opening day spot light since they won't get much coverage during the season.

I'd be interested to know the answer to this question.
