I don't have a problem with that at all. The video is out there & some people want to see it. As a news station, it is their job to broadcast the news. They had the decency to warn people and give them the opportunity to watch it if they chose to do so.

I agree, if anything does the police department have to immediately release the video? I would think not. Like someone else said, it was a bad situation; knowing the outcome makes it even worse but I wouldn't say it shouldn't be showed at all. If anything I think WXIX did it the right way.

BF ya know I love ya man, but I'm with Bench on this one, how do you know it was phony? Maybe they knew they have a strong audience that follows them and that some of that audience may or may not want to see it, and that they also didn't think it was appropriate to put it on tv for the family to see unexpectedly. Honestly, if anyone wanted to see it 60-70% of people could probably do it on their cell phones via youtube....

BUT, If people start to understand that when you drive, you are behind the wheel of a deadly weapon. Not only are the victims and their families lives effected, but this guy who killed them will be in prison i'm guessing the rest of his life, and his family suffers too. People need to see what stupid decisions can cause. I have no issue on how they did this.

Also, not everyone agrees with you, I'm in agreement with Birdsfan and TB&G. There is no reason to show the impact, it serves no purpose. Perhaps if it was a loved one of yours you'd feel differently.

I'm fairly certain they fpo have to release it, the Freedom of information act would require them to release if anyone requests it.

The police department didn't do anything wrong. I'm not sure on their policies or Ohio's state laws, but I'd say they had no choice but to release the video.

I think there's two different cases being argued here. One is whether 19 did anything right/wrong compared to what the other stations did. That could be debated all day long. However, what I think BF is trying to point out (and I don't mean to be putting words in your mouth BF)...is that if Channel 19 is going to make a big deal out of NOT showing the impact "due to the respect of the families"...then that means not showing it ANYWHERE. Think about it... by pulling it from the actual tv broadcast, that impacted what, maybe 200,000 viewers? But, keeping it up on their website allows for the ENTIRE WORLD to view it. That doesn't sound like a lot of respect to me.

 

If you want to show the video fine. If you don't, that's fine too. But don't make a big deal about not showing it, and act like you're taking the high road...and then turn around in the next instant and show it (and even promote the fact!). I'm with you BirdsFan...totally classless.
