WXIX Shows True Lack of Class

Featured Replies

Early this morning, there was a horrible crash in Cincinnati, which took the life of a cab driver and his blind passenger. They were T-boned by a stolen car, whose occupants were fleeing police.

Earlier this evening, WXIX (Ch. 19 in Cincinnati) showed a police dash-cam video of the accident occurring. They stopped the video at the moment before the impact. The anchor came on and somberly stated, "Out of respect for the families of the deceased, we are stopping the tape and not showing the actual crash."

This was a very decent and commendable decision. But in the next breath, he goes on to say, "If you'd like to see the entire video, including the moment of impact, you can find it on our web site, at...."

With that, it became clear that the decision had zero to do with respect for the families, and everything to do with driving traffic to their web site and the advertisements found there.

What started out as a noble act of decency, turned out to be a cheap tease to boost ad sales. :irked:

My question is who would want to see someone get hit in a car wreck and killed?

Good question. Unfortunately, far too many would watch.

It was shown on channels 9 and 12 on the 5 oclock news. Tough watching the impact knowing the result. I was watching the chase video and I was surprised they showed impact.

Anything for ratings and the almighty $$$$.

What does her being blind have to do with anything?

So, they should have just shown the video like all the other channels?

Wow! You sure missed that point by a mile!

Let's try again.

They should not have played it as a humanitarian act, when it clearly was anything but that.

Got a problem with blind people now, do we? It's a human interest element. So, they should have just left that out of the story?

I think it's a fair question. Why was it relevant? Would they have reported that the passenger was obese? Had cancer? Autistic? Albino?

Unless they were trying to imply "well at least they didn't see it coming...." it seems like a throwaway comment.

So two people are killed in the middle of Downtown Cincinnati, the police release the video of said incident and you think they should just talk about it?

Before you call out Channel 19 shouldn't you see what the other news channels did with the video? If they're the only ones who did not show the video didn't they actually do the classy thing? Their job is not to censor the news for the meek but to deliver it, and in this case they did and showed some civility in the way they presented by leaving the disturbing part of the video off of the public airways.

I think they did the absolute perfect thing in this instance. Sounds like 5,9 and 12 should be your target not 19.

I dont know why they added it in. I agree that it isn't relevant. But I guess the fact that she was coming here to be with her mother added an element of sympathy to the story.

I don't have a problem with that at all. The video is out there & some people want to see it. As a news station, it is their job to broadcast the news. They had the decency to warn people and give them the opportunity to watch it if they chose to do so.

It sounds like Channel 19 handled a bad situation well.

Boy, you don't get it, and obviously aren't going to; so we'll just leave it at that.

Seems like everyone is agreeing with me.

Maybe you're the one who's not getting it.

And don't call me "boy", thank you. :thumb:
