Absolutely no hands down winner! Two horse race......two pretty good horses. Not that I agree, but I think Micah Johnson's commitment to UK as well as his Rivals.com Top 50 status may give him an edge. However, Justin Burke is still playing and playing for a championship.

Which one has the best chance of playing pro ball someday, Johnson or Burke? That's the one the voters should choose. Both of them has had exceptional high school careers.

 

I disagree that the vote should be for who has the best chance of playing in the NFL. The vote should be for who was the best high school senior football player in the state for that season not who has the best potential to be a pro player.

What about Fidler? What was his #'s? I know they weren't as good as Burke's, I'm just curious.

How did Burke get away from the Wildcats? He is better than the two QB's they have now. Should be starting for KY next season. Way to go Rich and Joker!!

Justin Burke may have been rated as high as the fourth-best QB in the country, but Micah Johnson was rated by the Sporting News as the third best player in the country, PERIOD (regardless of position). If Mr. Football is indeed supposed to go to the best overall football player in the state of KY, then it would be absurd for Johnson NOT to get it.

 

Also, if one is going to use how heavily a player is recruited for college football as an argument for someone winning this honor (which was done in the opening post), then I suspect Johnson has gotten more collegiate consideration than anyone in the state (HOWEVER, I do not agree at all with using this as a legitimate criterion, given that HS football is a very different game than college football, and just because someone is not given major looks from D-1 colleges should in no way reflect upon their HS-playing abilities).

I hope that we have some legitimate Jefferson County candidates next year.

BTW, I think that Justin Burke has to win it....he has seperated himself completely from everyone else.

Here is a question, how many rushing tds does Burke have this year? Yards rushing? I know he scored at least 5 or 6 tds rushing this year.

Burke has thrown for 62 T.D.'s this year! That is more than Tim Couch, Brian Brohm or any QB you want to put in that slot. That is unreal within itself! Add 1,000+ rushing over his carrear and that is impressive. Throw in his G.P.A.+ leadership skills and he is the all american athlete. He is in the elite leauge of Tim Couch and Brian Brohm on the KY High School QB level! Burke has also LED his team to it's first ever state championship. Did I add he only has 5 int's in his all time record breaking 62 T.D. season?

At the beginning of the year I thought Micah Johnson was the frontrunner for Mr. Football followed by several others including Justin Burke and Will Fidler. I think it is a given that no one has had a better season this year than Justin. He is the undisputed leader of the state's best offense and controls that offense like an artist. He excells in the classroom and is extremely articulate. He will be a fine representative for the state of Kentucky in any field. I can't imagine anyone being more deserving.

I think Burke has it locked up. He has had a monster Senior year. If Fidler could have repeated his stats from his Junior year it would be a very tight race but I believe Burke has run away with it.
