Lloyd is no where near the team that Newcath is.

 

I agree. NewCath has two excellent scorers in Geisler and Hightchew and some really nice role players in Miller(defense/rebounding), Ryan(sweet shooter), Beuter(solid PG for soph), Doyle (athletic/defender). They are good enough to represent the 9th Region and should handle that side of the bracket.

 

I would love to see Highlands knock off Dixie and I am sure Holmes would also but if I go off of who the top teams are in both brackets I would say an NCC/Dixie Final could be brewing. They played early in the year but NCC had three football players in Geisler/Hightchew and Doyle who had maybe 1 practice before that game. It would be an entirely different game just like I think the Highlands/Dixie matchup will be with Stewart and Crowley, the teams leading scorers now playing in this matchup.

To the best of my knowledge no! The girls 9th starts on Monday so not much time to get 16 teams a turn on that floor! That is why teams such as Holmes, Dixie and CovCath who played in the Bluegrass/Buckeye have a somewhat advantage in playing at least a game on that court!

There really are no crib shots for anyone other than probably NCC. But lest we forget, Villa about took down a heavily favored St. Henry a few years back in the first round. St. Henry has improved but NCC should be able to take care of business.

 

Not sure who I like in these games.

 

I still think Dixie should be the favorite because they probably have the best scoring starting five of anyone in the field.

 

I really don't think previous matchups during the season play any real role especially being played at the BOK.

 

Highlands could play the role of a spoiler, because they are practically back to full strength and they have the wily vet on the sideline in Mike Flynn.

 

I doubt the lower bowl fills up for any of these games with maybe the exception of the finals.

It is a shame but the region is making more money from these games whether or not it is full, than they would be at a high school venue.

Precisely why they won't move it back to HS Gyms anytime soon, if ever.

St Henry battled injuries all year after losing their leading scorer in their first game.

 

But yes, the 34th is one of the weaker districts in the 9th.

Someone will inevitably help me with this post, but the team you are referring to, St. Henry, has made it to the 9th Region tournament the last four years, a couple of those in a different district. The loss of 8 Seniors from last year's team and the loss one of their main contributors for a good portion of the season led to their current record. St. Henry lost to Lloyd Memorial, a team who had a final season record of 14-15, by nine points during the regular season. The return of Zach Barnett and some spirited play in these two teams' rematch allowed St. Henry to advance to the District Finals. The other two teams in this five team district finished 13-13 and 12-15. Dixie Heights was the obvious class of this district with a current 26-3 record.

If the lower bowl for these match-ups aren't filled up, then I guess it's time to more back to the HS gyms, as nothing will get some fans out to see HS Basketball anymore. Couldn't ask for more competitive and exiting game match-ups than these!

I think the reasons the venue was moved still exist. The schools were too small for the semi's and finals. The gyms had to be cleared and people were shut out. There is now ample parking and everyone gets a seat. Also, there is no unfair advantage for a team to play 3 games on their home floor.

Absolutely no reason for this region tourney to ever go back to a high school gym.

 

Two years ago when Boone played Holmes in the region championship, there was over 6k there. Granted some of those fans were from the 10th region as well, I believe last years' drew around 4 or 5k as well.

Wasnt Holmes persay, just Ron Madrick is seen as one of the leaders among the AD's in NKY... and his staff always ran it best when it was at Holmes, so he normallly takes on the duty since it has been moved to the BOKC.

Spoke to Mr. Madrick prior to and after the CovCath vs. Cov Holmes game and yes he will be the man in charge this year also at the BOKC. Outstanding gentlemen and he along with official scorekeeper Mr. Jack Kaelin who is a score keeping legend, make an outstanding duo to see that this event runs smoothly.

However the students can buy tickets at their school for only $6.00. Not sure if adults can buy them at the schools but???
