5A in the west is not much different now than it has been the past 4 years. Christian, Bowling Green, and John Hardin are all candidates to come out of the west. Those are the teams that have won the west the past 4 years. The difference is there is no large pink elephant in the room standing there waiting to beat the crap out of them. Harlan or someone from the east will be good, but I would think who ever comes out of the west would be the favorite just about every year.

Is it safe to say that it will be a disappointing season for Bowling Green if they aren't in the state finals?

My bad. I went to Bowling Green and we always shortened Warren Central to Central. I slipped back to my youth temporarily. GCHS is correct.

 

Warren Central is our biggest rival and the last two years WC has knocked BG out of the playoffs. BG was favored both years I believe. I would think that BG will most definitely need to defeat WC first and that WC should be a contender if BG is. Waiting for confirmation from DragonFire.

That may be true, but those teams will bring something Harlan Co. won't like. A whole lot of speed.

Warren Central hasn't knocked BG out of the playoffs since 1993. They have defeated them in the regular season the past 2 years.

Oh. Okay. I thought it was the playoffs. I guess with the pain of losing to Central it felt like the playoffs.

I think they've only even met in the playoffs 4 times with BG winning one before 1993 and two since. 1991, 1993, and 2000 were all great games. 2007.... not so much. Or at all.

 

PP, as to Central next year, they didn't lose many players, but they lost ones that played large roles. Both of the linebackers are gone, one of which was one of their better linemen on offense, the other was their fullback and leading rusher. Barber is gone, and he was their big play guy and all-state at DB. All in all, of the 7 seniors they lost, 3 accounted for positions on both sides of the ball and two others were keys on their defense. It remains to be seen what they can do. The nice thing about Central under Coach Rogers is that the team has improved as the year goes on, so chances are we won't really know what they're made of until mid-October, just like last year.

Fair enough. It'll be interesting to see how 5A turns out next year.

I do think whoever comes out of the west will win the whole thing.

Watch out for Anderson County coming out of the east. I think they take a hit on the line, but return almost, if not all of their skill kids and their QB included. They took John Hardin to the wire in the region final this year, then speed did what speed does: Kills.
