February 23, 201115 yr Evidently Jonny Gomes is pretty happy about Wainwright's injury: Gomes sings about Wainwright's injury Jonny might not want to dig in the first time he steps in the box against the Cards this season...
February 23, 201115 yr I think it's awesome, add to the rivalry. That brawl was the best thing that could have happened to the Reds, they bounced back to take the division, Cards went in the tank. Should be a "fun" 18 games between those 2 this year.
February 23, 201115 yr ^ That should make for an interesting start to the series. Granted this should have never made it to the press. It was some locker room thing he was probably doing to some of the guys to get a laugh and McCoy took it and reported it. I don't think he would have done it if he knew it would be reported like this or maybe he was really happy and just hates the guy.

There is no question it shouldn't have left the locker room and should have stayed in house. I don't think we have ever heard anything other than good things about Gomes. So yeah, I'm sure he isn't happy about it being out there and will likely back down from it when asked. With that said, I'm glad it's out there. It's a 281 month season with 42 thousand games, let's spice things up a little. Phillips on the other hand has a long history of being ignorant, while I didn't mind what he said, we expect it from him.
February 23, 201115 yr Gomes has explained the situation: http://marksheldon.mlblogs.com/archives/2011/02/gomes_on_wainwright.html
February 23, 201115 yr ^ Strange. Makes sense to me. The guys are just beginning to meet, so things are pretty loose in the clubhouse. Gomes is singing Karate Kid, hears the news, and changes the words to the same tune as the Karate Kid song. Hal McCoy hears it, doesn't recognize the melody (he said so himself) and writes about it. Media outlets everywhere begin to report it, and it spirals out of control.

February 24, 201115 yr Author It's a solid cover up but I guess we will never know for sure. Not sure why Hal would even report that anyway. I'm not sure Hal will get as much access after two issues. Sheldon is saying he was in there and Gomes was singing prior to hearing the news and Hal runs with Gomes is celebrating. An Enquirer reporter was there too and didn't run with it. So at least 3 reporters were present and Hal ran with it
