Aric Russell from Campbell County should have won coach of the year IMO. Don't get me wrong-Coach Humphries and his boys had a much more successful season than any other team in the 10th Region. However, with the talent they have, this was to be expected. Campbell County was predicted 7th in the Regional preseason poll, and were not thought to be much of a threat in the Regional Tournament. He changed the whole style of play for Campbell County, and they have excelled this year because of it.

 

I know what you are saying, but also hard to pentilaze a coach because he has the most talent and best team.

I just think it's harder to produce wins and be productive with less talent than it is with an abundance of talent. CC has been loaded with talent for 2 years and their expectations were regional champs at least if not state champs (talent wise that would be an achievable goal). So far, 0-1 in that category. Both Deming and Brossart are (in my opinion) on the lower end of the talent scale but they've both produced stellar results thus far this year and I expect both have met their expectations. Just my observation but I expect many people see it my way.

Nice justification and can agree with you on your points as well. You will never get some on here to come close to saying well I can live with that explanation.

Thanks, I see what you are saying but you comapre what Deming and Brossart has done this year, but yet you comapre what GRC has done last year. Compare them both in what they have done so far this year. Looks like that is what the coaches did when they cast thier votes.This year GRC is 24-5 with a brutal schedule. We have 9 + wins over ranked teams in the state. Have only lost to two teams in the state , #2 Ballard and # 11 Henry Clay, which we revenged last week. Other teams we lost to where nationally ranked teams. With what GRC has done so far this year, I can see why the coaches voted the way they did.

While Mike Code has again done a masterful job of molding this year's Mustangs into a 15-10 ballclub, winning the 10th Region "A" again, and upsetting Newport Central Catholic, I think he would be slightly embarrassed to be named this year's KABC 10th Region Coach of the Year. Proud but slightly embarrassed. Mike Code will be the 10th Region's Class "A" Coach of the Year for the 6th time in his 7th year as head coach of the Mustangs. The winner of the 10th Region Tournament will be the overall "10th Region Coach of the Year."

 

Jamie Johnson has produced a 20-9 Deming team this year, but failed to win the 10th Region "A" this year, an achievement that might have garnered him more consideration in the balloting.

His 17-9 mark is not that much greater than the 15-10 mark accomplished by his predecessor, and it is yet to be seen what the Camles do in the post-season. With the KABC voting taking place during the latter part of the regualr season, with the psot-season not considered, I think it would be a stretch for Aric to have been elected the 10th Region's KABC Coach of the Year.

 

Then there's Brad Carr at Scott, whose Eagles were supposed to be in a re-building mode. They are presently 16-9 overall and 5-1 in the Region, with that loss coming to Mason County early in the season. You can certainly make a case for Coach Carr, but Coach Humphry's Cardinals have done everything asked of them this season and are 24-5. On paper, the Cards lay over the 10th Region and Coach Humph certainly seems to the most likely, qualified, candidate for the award.

 

My personal feelings are that Coach Humphries is indeed the proper recipient this season.

I think Corey Rogers is very deserving of the award. If you look at his numbers over the past two season's, he has been Clark's leading scorer and if not thier leading rebounder, at least very close to it. He is solid game in and game out and you know what you are going to get from him every night. I thought Stenzel would get it by reputation and name over Rogers, both kids deserving but very glad Rogers got it. Congrats to Coach Humphrey's on the recognition, but as stated by other posters, thought Russell might win.

My vote for player of the year would go to Kellen Smith of Scott. Without him where would they have finished ? Maybe it should be most valuable player!

Agree with you that waiting till after regional is over would give a better pictures of a teams over all season and the coaching accomplishments.

 

As far as GRC's regular season this year, they have exceeded my goals. The voting takes place right after the regular season so this is what they are baseing their votes on. With this schedule, we have won games I didn't think we would, Lexington Catholic at Catholic and Scott Co come to mind. First time we have beat Scott Co in about 7 years. Also we won the Toyota Classic which is quite the accomplishment, especially this year with the format and without Zollo. We beat state ranked Warren Central without Rogers by 16 points. Faired very well at the Beachball against nationally ranked teams. Have 9+ wins against state ranked teams. 24-5 is a great record with the brutal schedule that Coach H put together this year.

 

In an eariler post you stated that Brossart and Deming had both met their expectations. IMO the Cards have exceeded my expectations for the regular season.
