I have not seen GRC yet this yr, but why is it a surprise that Rogers won player of the yr? Usually the best teams have the best players.

 

Agree, just think most thought Robbie Stenzel would get it....me included. Cory has had a great year along with Jaylan Daniel.

This could have gone to any of GRC's starting five , (unless it is a senior only award) , they all had high points and low points. That says a lot about a team when talent can carry them through rough spots. Cory is very deserving of this award. I would love to see Robbie get Mr. Basketball, pound for pound he is the best in the state IMHO! :thumb:

So what you are saying is that when they announce the All 10th Region teams the starting 5 of GRC should comprise First Team All Region?

4 of them could be put on it and it wouldn't be biased at all IMO. Of course guys like Setty and Gilbert and others on other teams deserve it as well but they can't be punished for being on the same team.

Overall talent wise? You don't get an argument from me. Corey deserves this award just as much as anybody else that could have won it too though. I believe you could make a case between 4-5 players this year and all would have been deserving.

The best player in the region is Kellen Smith. He does it all for his team but he does not play on the best team!

Why wasn't it the Cats Pauses fault, it is one mans opinion. I like the way many other regions do, poll the coaches for top teams and players and then use that for the article. Another case is the 11th region. Jackson Davis not listed in the top 10 players in that region. Again poll the coaches.

 

 

Not sure when the names of the rest of the players will be released but when I find out, I will post.

No argument with the Player selection although I think Stenzel is the "glue" factor that makes CC run but I think there were several coaches who were more deserving. Jamie Johnson (Deming) and Mike Code (Bishop Brossart) to name just 2.

I thought this thread was about 10th region player and coach of the year, not Cats Pause. Brad Carr would get my nod for coach of the year. He doesn't get the notice in my opinion because he is in Northern Kentucky. Corey Rogers is a solid player and several others could have gotten this award but the two I would have decided from would be Stenzel or Setty because they are more important to their teams. If you don't have Stenzel, Rogers doesn't get the ball and Stenzel is the glue to GRC in my opinion. Setty and his numbers speak for themselves and I have felt he has improved his all around game so much this season.

Aric Russell from Campbell County should have won coach of the year IMO. Don't get me wrong-Coach Humphrey and his boys had a much more successful season than any other team in the 10th Region. However, with the talent they have, this was to be expected. I don't believe a coach should win this simply due to his team not underachieving. Campbell County was predicted 7th in the Regional preseason poll, and were not thought to be much of a threat in the Regional Tournament. He changed the whole style of play for Campbell County, and they have excelled this year because of it.

Why shouldn't it be mentioned that the player of the year couldn't even make the top 10 in Cats Pause? As I posted before, why I like the voting of the coaches for these awards and it should be for the Cats Pause.

 

On the players, I though Stenzel would get it. Yes Setty has had a great year, but #'s can be decieving. With all the talent GRC has of course their #'s are going to be more evenly distrubited. Setty is the go to guy for Mason Co, you expect him to have big #'s every game. GRC has several that can/have put up big #s, but as shown by GRC's brutal record, that one can have a off night and another picks up the slack and still win.
