Dawson to USC

Featured Replies

I was told that Lamar just didn't connect with UK's new Defensive Coach. Chuck was the only reason that Kentucky had stayed on the list. That along with USC being his dream school as a child pretty much did UK in.

Pretty much what I heard as well. Actually Joker did not do a good job at all from my sources. Of all the schools, UK did the poorest job of presentation and push to have him.

I find it so amusing from some on here that have no clue or contacts with the program at all but feel absolutely fine to imply that there is "Something fishy" all because they hate Kiffin but have no knowledge to back it up. Pretty sad really.

I don't like Lane Kiffin at all. But USC is USC and it shows the complete lack of intelligence on the part of those who can post the tripe they do about this. I wonder if Lamar had been from some other school or part of the state if the scrutiny at HIS CHOICE to attend school at USC would be just as maligned. :idunno:

The only thing that concerns me with him going to USC is he might not ever start. They get so much talent every year. At UK he would probably start next year or year after.

I don't think that he did anything wrong. I take it at face value that he has been a lifelong USC fan. I hope he is wonderfully happy with his choice and becomes an all-american while he is there. But, and it's a big but, Lane Kiffin is a big hot mess. Turmoil follows him everywhere he has been. It came out yesterday that he may sitll be sanctioned by the NCAA from the problems he walked away from at TN. If he wasn't going to UK then I am glad he went across the country, just wish it had been Oregon, a team I would happily cheer for.

GO REBELS!!!

GO BIG BLUE!!!

I would think that is true at all D-1 schools.

The difference between UK and USC is light years, in terms of talent.

True. But the best players want to prove their great against the best. Maybe that's what Lamar is looking to do.

IF the SEC is considered to have the best football then going to USC doesn't support the "against the best" theory.

1 out of 5 draft picks int he 2010 NFL draft were from the SEC. 55 for the SEC and 29 for the PAC 10.

11 of the last 13 drafts have been dominated by the SEC.

My guess is the kid loved SC, loved LA on his visit, and made a personal decision. Good for him. Worse places to attend than SC.

My statement was really more towards the notion of playing at UK where the competition to start is far less than the competition to play at USC.

As to your stats on the SEC, how are they in Linebacker recognition? Here's an article:

That was from 2 years ago and these guys are now shining on the biggest stage.

Add to that the number of Defensive stars in the NFL from USC and I still think the Trojans aren't sitting behind any other individual teams for Defensive Talent coming from their ranks. :thumb:

Great group that year.

2010 draft: 6 SEC LBs drafted out of 29 LBs drafted. None from SC.

I agree; I was responding to PP92 saying that playing time at all DI schools is at a premium; I was pointing out the differences in the 2 schools.

Dawson should have gone where he felt he could best reach his goals- academically, athletically, and socially; if that is USC- God Bless Him and good luck(except against ND).

USC= Hollywood, sunshine, attractive females, the Trojan march, national prominence in football, fast track to the NFL

Not a bad recruiting model!

No question. It's surprising they don't get even more of the top players.

Can you stretch that out over the last 10 years? I think it would be a lot more even particularly when you look at the one year. I might add that you are citing SEC as a conference. Is that really apples to apples when your other side of the comparision is one individual school?

I could but I'll have to do it later.

I will try to get a breakdown by school.

How many LBs can you think of from SC in the NFL right now besides the 3 you referenced plus Rivers?

Off top of my head wasn't Touiasosopo from Seattle one?
