Go back to the threads after his first super bowl win. Shoot, even the season of his second win he played very poorly, didn't he? I think the experts do appreciate him but we're talking the majority of people and if you listen to sports radio or read the sports blogs it's a pretty common opinion. It's the perception I get from them anyway.

 

BTW, I like the guy and have defended him on here in the past. Ever since I watched him throw bullets through a tornado during a Thursday night Miami game his senior year.

I think it's because fantasy football has everyone tuned into individual stats that they forget the object of the game is to win.

Each year the Steelers have won it, they could have had 1/3 of the QBs in the league as their QB and they probably would have still been just as successful.

Ben fell into a perfect situation and is making the most of it so good for him.If you think for one second that any other QB could have survived with this Oline this season and make plays outside the pocket, ala the Suggs play when he threw the ball out of bounds (which I thought was the play of the season), well I couldn't possibly disagree more. He's not ever gonna wow folks with fantasy numbers. But when he keeps int's to a minumum, he wins. Plain and simple, and that's what Pittsburgh is built on, the final results, not the #'s. Case in point, Lynn Swann is in the HOF, not because he would have been a fantasy stud. He won, bottom line.

 

As for the opinions on Ben and who folks would take as their QB, I think when you hear the current defensive players around the league talk about him, you get a better read of the actual worth of the player than from fantasy nerds or the like.

 

And one final thing, I think this is Ben's finest season to date, if for no other reason, he has learned how to simply throw it away when things fall apart instead of trying to force things. He's realized you can punt it, turn it over to your D and rely on them to get you the ball back in solid field position.

I love watching the Steelers. I'm not particularly a "Steelers fan", but their defense is just so much fun to watch. And I do like watching Ben as a QB. The big lug is absolutely 100% devoted to the win. There's nothing like watching defenders try to bring him down. They succeed at times, but he can take a lick and keep on ticking. Even better is when he pulls the ball down and runs with it. Nothing more amusing than watch the man lumber down field, and 9 times out of 10, he gets the yards needed plus more. And even MORE amusing is watching him try to slide down. He doesn't do that very gracefully. :lol: All in all, it's just fun to watch the Steelers. They're a team that I feel every single player gives 110% all the time. The fun thing for me in this Superbowl is that I'll get to watch two teams with ex-UL players on them. I'm in a win-win sitaution.

I am looking foward to this super bowl as much as any I can remember in a long time. Of course some of it is bc I am a Packer fan but mo this one is maybe the two most traditional, proud and winning traditions in pro football today. Of course there are others like the Cowboys, 49'ers and the Bears teams of long ago as well.

This super bowl imo has the kind of feeling to it that past Packer championships.super bowls have had along with past 70's Steeler/Cowboys, and their legendary players and coaches Landry and Noll, the J. Madden Raiders super bowls along with the B. Walsh 80's 49'er teams with Montana,Rice and crew.

No, neither of the two are imo as good as those past great teams but the game,to me anyway kind of has that feeling to it. I love tradition and these two teams have as much as anyone, more than most. Green Bay has won 12 total championships, Pittsburgh has 6

I am pumped for this Superbowl. Two traditional NFL franchises with a great following. I go back and forth each day as to who I think will win.

Nah, I can't imagine he really believes it when he thinks about it. Neat story about the profits going to that home though.

Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting Pouncey and Smith are both out for the Super Bowl....That could be a huge blow to the Steelers IMO, especially Pouncey.

Should be a heck of a game, however I think the Packers have the more talented overall team, even with all the injuries they have. I'm going with Green Bay 21-17 in a classic.

As much as I dislike the Steelers, I'd rather have Ben when the game is on the line. He just wins. I don't know how much more he has to prove. The Steelers have the best LB's, I don't think it's close. Two elite edge rushers and Farrior with Timmons. The Pack have Matthews, who is great and the rest are are better than avg. but not at the level of the Steelers. I agree,the Pack definitely has the best K. Come on Crosby or Suisham? The Pack may win because it IS indoors. The Pack offense is much better indoors.

While I may be totally off base here, I think that the Packers would finish 3rd in the AFC North having to play that schedule. I also think that the final 4 teams in the AFC are all better than GB. Does that mean in a one game setting that the Pack can't win? Absolutley not, they can and very well may win this game. However, I think the Steelers will win as long as they don't turn the ball over more than once.

I would disagree. I think the Packers are on par with the top teams in the league. They're good enough to win any division you put them in, IMO. Especially when they're healthy (or healthier). What they suffered with injuries this year is ridiculous. I'd rate them ahead of Baltimore for sure.

 

I also don't see a huge difference between the AFC and NFC North. Both divisions had two good teams and two bad teams. The Packers and Steelers are close. The Bears and Ravens are close...both have good defenses and inconsistent offenses. The Browns, Lions and Vikings weren't good teams this year, but they frequently played opponents very tough and scored a few good wins. The Bengals were bad.
