I'll agree that it isn't close, but I still say the Lakers aren't the best team in the west. I wouldn't say records are meaningless. But I do agree with HT that the real season hasn't started yet. Time will tell who is the best team in the league. But for now, it ain't the Lakers.

With the new hard cap the Lakers will be the most financially crippled team in the league. They will have less flexibility than the Heat for crying out loud. Not gonna happen. He's going to stay in Orlando. Nope. I'm calling Boston. His deal expires along with KG and Allen's I believe and they will have the cap and the team to get him. When KG and Allen roll of the books no good team in the league will be in as good a position as they will be in. Their role players make nothing. Two predictions I'll go on record making. One for this season, and one for the future. The Los Angeles Clippers will contend for the 8th and final playoff berth in the West THIS season. 2 years from now the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers will be the best two teams in the West. They're both one solid player and a bit more experience away from being on the same level as the elite of the West IMO. I too like the Clippers to take the 8th seed. I was about to post the same thing about 2 or 3 days ago but student teaching has really gotten the best of me this last week or so. :thumb: I don't like the Thunder going forward. I don't think Durant is that kind of player. I guess I could see them winning the West a few times because I think the West will be weak in the up coming years but I think he's more TMac than Jordan. Maybe I could see it if Westbrook finds a position or becomes a better all around PG, because I think he's the real heart of their team. JMO.
January 20, 201115 yr If the Spurs add a big with some size before the deadline I think they have a decent shot of winning the West. Without a move for a big I think LA's trio on the inside will be too much.

If you want to make a bold prediction, predict the Kings will make it as the #8 seed Yeah...had the date on this post been 12/16/10, when the Clippers were 5-21, it would have seemed bolder. Considering their history, predicting them to be in the conference finals at any time could classify as bold though.
January 21, 201115 yr Clips have gone from 5-21 to 16-26; a nice 11-5 run. Probably need to play just a bit better than .500 ball to sneak into the top 8.

January 21, 201115 yr I have no doubt that the Clippers can make the playoffs this year. It's been a bit of a perfect storm. But the franchise history and the behavior of Donald Sterling during the entirety of his ownership seem to suggest that the Clips stand no chance of being a long-term contender. Sterling figured out a long time ago that he can make more money by selling off marketable players than he could by trying to buy up enough skilled players to build a contender. I've seen nothing to suggest that he's about to change that.
January 22, 201115 yr During last night's game vs Portland they talked about the Clippers looming 11 game road stretch coming up. That doesn't bode well for them since they are 3-14 on the road. No chance at making the playoffs if you ask me.
