I like Highlands' non-district schedule with the exception of the two games at the end. Too bad those can't be earlier in the year. Elder will probably be in a must win situation and Ryle will be looking to add a second feather to their cap.

 

Do you think that the Highlands v Elder game could be bad for Elder? I mean if Highlands beats them then could it really hurt their chances in the Ohio playoffs? For Highlands all this game could do is add to an already impressive legacy if they win, and if they lose they are still in the playoffs. In other words, this game is all good for Highlands, and nothing but a potential problem for Elder. Makes me wonder why Elder would play this game so late in the year.

Really I didn't see any SK player running scared they would love to play the cake eaters and silence them. Oh yea the drive to five sounds pretty dumb considering half the players can't even drive yet just saying.

Elder has never "easily" beaten Highlands and when you discuss the history of NKY football, the discussion begins with Highlands at the top and goes all the way down to the bottom wear the likes of SK reside!!

Speaking of slogans and themes for the upcoming Highlands season, I am starting to wonder if we're gonna be hearing quite a bit of talk from Coach Mueller in the off-season/regular season about Highlands striving for the national championship. He really talked this up in 2009 but backed off last year.

 

Given what kind of talent is returning for Highlands this year, and the fact Highlands will be scrimmaging powerhouse/defending state champ Trinity in a real-game situation at Trinity (these preaseason scrimmages are taken into consideration for national rankings, BTW), will be traveling to play defending state champ Boyle County (the owner of the state's longest active win streak) and will travel to the Pit to play Elder late in the season, I'd say that ON PAPER at least the pieces are in place for a run at a pretty high ranking. Stay tuned...

My understanding was that Elder played Moeller late in the year in 2010 and it wasn't a good thing for either school right before the playoffs. If i'm not mistaken, HHS/Elder had week 3 locked up until Moeller released their schedule with week 3 open. Elder quickly jumped on the date with Moeller and had to move their game with HHS. That's how I heard it......:idunno:

That makes sense, but I still question the benefits of playing Highlands that late in the year. My thinking is that a loss in week eight for Elder hurts them more than it would Highlands who in all likleyhood will have their playoff spot set and a win against Elder would be, pardon the expression. "icing on the cake"

Couldn't agree with you more. Don't know much on the Highlands side besides Drake Bruns getting alot of attention. I would assume that the other Bruns kid, Devin I believe should be getting some looks. Just not too familiar with the other top players they have returning. I have been told through some sources over at Dixie that Goose Cohorn at the reciever position, and DJ Handlon aon the O and D line have been getting alot of interest. I believe Cohorn is also on the basketball team. Is Drake Bruns playing basketball? I know Towles is.
