The kids from Ft. Thomas never get snow days but I am with you on the dress code, at least for ballgames.

 

Game day? Heck that was the everyday dress code for everybody in the school and that top button of that shirt had better be buttoned and to bad if it's 90 degrees inside the classroom, keep that shirt buttoned and tie tied tightly to your neck!

 

BTW the dress code for the Basketball team was a Light Blue long sleeve Dress Shirt, CovCath tie, Gray Dress slacks, Black socks, Black Dress shoes and Blue Blazer with the CovCath school logo on the breast pocket. You wore this prior to games and after games and if you happened to be playing on the road like in the AIT, LIT or State Tourney, you wore that anytime you went out.

You're being misled. He's not "only playing 6 seniors." Sealteam is of the opinion that he should be getting more minutes for others. "Others" are playing. I'd guess 8 to 9 get PT.

I thought someone might offer some perspective on if the economy has hurt the talent pool that was there not that long ago.

 

I can offer what some real stats that I believe will answer your question. The school's current enrollment is 487, which is considerably down from the expectations when the built the new school. The new school can hold 600 students. I do believe that the cost to attend CCH ($6,500/year - tuition only) is a factor, but not the reason why some sports are not as consistent as the fan base would want them to be. There is a growing concern that if the enrollment continues to drop (487 is lowest) that the school is going to face some major financial hurdles in the future. I believe the pool of talent is still at the school.

There was a time in the late '90's and early '00's when I thought CCH was going to flat out dominate football, basketball, baseball, and soccer for that matter and it just hasn't happened; that is the reason for the original question.

There's no question that the economy is hurting enrollment. Add in that the overall strength of athletic programs has gotten better in NKY and you now give parents and students more choices.

 

I'd guess CCH doesn't get as many kids from the Union area anymore. I'd guess some will pay a small tuition to go to Beechwood out of district rather than paying $6k+ to go to Park Hills.

Spot on. I can think of a couple of would-be Ryle students we had playing back in my day, quite a few would-be Beechies, and a handful of would-be Little Colonels. The economy was much better, and tuition was between $2,000 and $2,500 less than it is now. Fast forward to 2008 and on: you've got those schools competing athletically as well as they do, and I would have to imagine it makes it an awful lot harder to swallow down the $6,000+ price tag that goes along with sending junior to Cov Cath.

You need to go watch a game and see that other than Thelen, Connolly, Baker, Maschinot, Reidinger and Schult the rest of the team doesn't combine to play 10 minutes a game. Cleves probably gets the most minutes off the bench behind Schult, but in a 32 minute game if you think that 10 minutes of total playing time for the rest of your varisty team constitutes a long bench then I will stand corrected.

Again, having 6 that you can play consistently plus 2 or 3 others to give a few minutes is more than enough.

I did not see the Beechwood and Highlands games on Cybersports so I could not check those. Are these less than earlier in the year, I think maybe so. Do I think this has anything at all to do with the 'slump' the team is in - absolutely not.

It depends, if 7,8, & 9 are not playing much because 1-6 is so strong, then that is an okay situation, but if it is because 7-9 just aren't good enough to provide rest and maintain the level of play, then that is a problem....
