January 18, 201115 yr Is he the best player on the Packers- not the most valuable, but the best? I think Clay Matthews is the best player on the Packers, so I can't say Rodgers is the best in the NFL. The problems here are: 1. How do we take value out of the argument and 2. How do we compare the different positions? This is a tough one- I see the merit in what Wildcat is trying to argue, but I have a tough time agreeing. He is certainly the hottest player in the league right now.
January 18, 201115 yr Here is another argument against Rodgers; it is debatable whether or not he is the best QB in the league. Shouldn't the best player be undoubtably the best at their position? In my mind, Troy Polamalu is the best player in the NFL. JMO. This is intriguing, though.

January 19, 201115 yr Author Revis and Polamalu are 2 excellent arguments. I would argue Rodgers has greater impact because he has the ball more and therefore affects the game more; Revis is awesome, but teams can throw to any one of 3-4 other receivers; Polamalu is a stronger candidate because his instincts allow him to be involved in more plays, but Rogers still impacts more, just because of his position alone. I'm hoping for Rogers vs. Polamalu in the Super Bowl; unbelievable matchup! Matthews??? Would GB rather face the Bears without Matthews or Rogers this week???? Rogers is their best player, but Matthews is a lot like Polamalu in his game changing ability!
January 19, 201115 yr We come up with a new best in the NFL every other week. Not going to put him on a pedestal quite yet. He is definitely in the top 5 players in the league, though. I agree. Every time someone has a few good games some one becomes the best player ever. Let Rodgers have a few more good games..maybe a ring before we throw out the best player in the NFL claims.

No team wants to lose their QB. It is hard to weigh this appropriately, IMO. If it comes down to a which player can a team least afford to lose argument, Peyton wins hands down, IMO. To judge this appropriately, I think you have to look at versitility at their position. Matthews brings more to his position than Rodgers does to his, IMO. Again, this is very difficult to quantify. Revis is a great argument, but Troy is on another level in terms of his value (Cromartie did a very good job when Revis missed time this season). The Steelers are a losing football team, 6-7, without Troy. I also think that how hot Rodgers is skews the argument- were we calling him the best player in the league in week 4, 5, 6? He is the hottest guy, but remember his week 17 performance- Clay and the d kept them in that one. Hottest player, yes. Best player, just not sure I can go there yet unless we see this type of performance as consistently as we see it from Brady, Manning, and guys like Troy and Revis at other positions.
January 19, 201115 yr I listened to a great interview with Phil Simms today talking about Rogers. He was talking about how much you learn at training camp with those guys. He said first year he was awful. 2nd year awful. He said on a scale of 1-10 NFL QB he would be generous to give him a 3. He said the franchise didn't think he would ever play and it was a good thing Favre was there. He said the 3rd year he thought it was Favre throwing by him. It was Rogers. He was blown away with how strong his arm was and how he could spin the ball. When he asked Rogers what he was doing different Rogers told him he went away from all the coaching he had gotten and started throwing natural again. This is high praise because Phil sees a lot and is very critical. He said that game vs Atl was as good of a performance that he has ever seen a QB put on in one game! He also said he would rate him 10 out of 10 now as an NFL QB.
January 19, 201115 yr Who is better? I keep hearing Rodgers is not, but no answers to the question. Of course there are great players at other positions, but they don't impact the game like the QB and no one is playing better QB than Rogers right now. My Top 5 QB 1. Brady 2. Payton 3. Big Ben 4. Brees 5. Rodgers
January 19, 201115 yr My Top 5 QB 1. Brady 2. Payton 3. Big Ben 4. Brees 5. Rodgers I am sure some will argue the order but those are the top 5 no matter what order you put them in.
January 19, 201115 yr Maybe the Bears should forfeit.:laugh:, That would help the Packers more than anything this weekend.
January 19, 201115 yr Wildcat's argument is not as whacky as some might think. He's certainly entering the discussion. :thumb: Revis and Polamalu are 2 excellent arguments. I would have no problem with naming Polamalu the best player i the NFL.
January 19, 201115 yr I am sure some will argue the order but those are the top 5 no matter what order you put them in. I could jumble the order too and did a couple of times making that list.

Troy Palomalu is the best player in the NFL IMO. He impacts the game as much as the best QBs do IMO. I think he could make any defense in the NFL good.
