Expanding the NKYFL

Featured Replies

Wow!!!!!!!!! This is exactly what I was thinking except you said it so much better. The current teams are being raided by the middle school league and why would any high school use NKYFL as a feeder system when the middle school leagues have been shown to be successful.

It was not that long ago that Bracken County petitioned to be in the NKYFL and went to a meeting and were told "thanks but no thanks." This was back when Bracken was working on how to structure a youth program. Man how times have changed. The NKYFL should dump the senior division and try to salvage what they can with the younger groups.

Never had a kid in the league, but it has become a out dated. The geography set out 50 years ago is how they still break down the teams.

Some organisations have 50+ on a team while others have barely enough to field a team. The focus of the larger teams is ALL about winning as many kids spend all of their time on the bench, eventually disliking the sport.

Fort Thomas does not play by these rules, probably one of the reasons they are consistently good al all levels.

NKYFL is way behind the times as adults seek glory not the good of the young players.

Amen. I know many people that have taken their kids out of the nkyfl and took them to Ft. Thomas to play. For exactly that reason, NOT to learn to hate the sport.

Don't kids from Dayton go to NCC and Highlands too? I think they do.

^ Yes they do thats what I was trying to point out.

Also got word this week that CovCath is looking into starting a 5/6 grade team.

Where would a 5th and 6th grade Cov. Cath team play?

Cov Cath is going to have 5th and 6th grade teams in the new expansion of the NKMSFL in the upcoming 2011 season. One of my good friends accepted the head coaching position for the 5th grade team today.

They will be following the same rules as the current NKMSFL has established, and games will be played at Cov Cath. They will be practicing for this year on their feeder schools' (St. Agnes, St. Pius X, St. Joe's Crescent Springs, Blessed Sacrament, and Prince of Peace) fields, likely alternating between the fields on the campuses at St. Agnes & St. Pius, and Blessed Sacrament's fields at the Diocesan Catholic Children's Home. They look to have their practice schedule incorporated the following year to the new fields being built at the northwest side of Cov Cath's campus.

The Nkyfl will use Cov Cath as an example.

I don't think they are trying to make trouble (especially seeing as they apparently approached the NKYFL about participating in their league), but I have a good feeling that seeing as Cov Cath has been "used as an example", their decision to participate elsewhere will likely have an adverse effect on the NKYFL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Cov Cath first organized their NKMSFL teams, I believe the participation in the senior division teams for the Spartans, the Raiders and the Panthers was greatly impacted - to the point that Ludlow decided to fold their senior division.

I was wondering where they would practice.

They have almost 175 kids playing between the 7/8. freshman and varsity practicing now.

Yea, after I posted, I saw that. Sorry about that. :isurrender:

I forgot about Ludlow my bad..

Looks like this is getting off topic. Bunch of complaining. He asked a question to discuss anyones thoughts on making this league even better by expanding and realignment. Not every coach in the league is just about winning. They strive for it but not consumed by it. But most of the time the teams with good coaching and high numbers do usually win. But if they expand then that would redistribute the numbers to create more playing time and parity. They have split the midgets and Juniors into 4 teams. And now they are trying to align more with schools. Sounds like a league progressing instead of fading. It is no big ego blow to the NKYFL if they lose the senior division. It's about time middle schools stepped up and provided this service. Positive comments and discussions would really help this thread.

Sounds like someone is in the nkyfl circle.

Could you explain this? I mean, the perennial state powers in NKY have not had middle school teams feeding them but rather youth leagues.

I may be wrong but middle school football is fairly new to NKY.

First time I heard about it was 5-6 years ago and only a few teams were around.

Today there are 16 teams with a couple more being added and a 5/6 grade division.

The affects of middle school football is starting to come into play.
