Expanding the NKYFL

Featured Replies

I may be wrong but middle school football is fairly new to NKY.

First time I heard about it was 5-6 years ago and only a few teams were around.

Today there are 16 teams with a couple more being added and a 5/6 grade division.

The affects of middle school football is starting to come into play.

It has been around for at least a decade.

Yes the middle school leagues have been successful in starting feeder programs specific to that school. NCC is a good example. NKYFL teams (even those in small areas like Bellevue and Dayton) feed many schools. In fact for a school like Bellevue their senior team skill players many times (particularly at QB over the past several years) are being developed and they are going to other schools. The middle school programs give each school a chance to develop their players in a fashion that they want.

Yeah its been around longer than 10 years but Im not exactly sure when it started.

Kudos to the league for trying something new good luck. JD

There is alot of venom for a league that has meant an awfully lot to many young men in NKY over the years. The league offers a more competetive alternative to some developmental leagues for kids that may be on a different level athleteically at those ages. I played in the league from starters to seniors and had a blast but I got to play. The league does have it's drawbacks and isn't or hasn't been a very good developmental league for all of the kids on the rosters. It sounds like they may be coming around on that but to suggest that most of the coaches are doing so for thier egos is a little over the line for me.

It has been around since at least '89. I played in it from '91-'93.

I talked to someone about this and was told quote, "this has not been approved by the NKYFL Board."
