Is anyone else starting to get concerned with Zeke Pike's attitude on the court? It seems to be something every game. I don't know the kid personally, but from everything I've been told, he seems like a great kid off of the hardwood and gridiron, and there's no denying he is an incredible talent in both sports. But he's beginning to get quite a reputation as a hothead.

 

IMO, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. A great talent but Major College coaches have a lot to choose from and kids that seem to have attitude problems will lose in the end.

How about this? Since this is a thread about high school kids we leave the personal stuff out of it? It's unbecoming. Heck, now we're not only insulting high school kids we're insulting their parents.

Someone also claimed Trammell wasnt a scorer and his best attribute is setting up other players. Although this may be true, I knew he was capable of scoring. This also makes Al Dean , Highland PG, look that much better as a defender holding him to 2 pts in that game.

With all of the high major offers he currently holds I don't think it has been an issue with any of the college coaches. Zeke has made major gains over the past few years in his matuity and attitude and everyone wants to focus on his slip ups. He is a competitor and wants to win as bad as any kid I have seen recently. Coaches love a kid with passion and just give them an opportunity to coach him up on how he reacts.

I think Pike has made leaps and bounds in the maturity category. He got frustrated as any competitive athlete would when you are on the receiving end of the whistle 3 straight trips up the floor. He has done a pretty darn good job keeping himself in check and I think that was pretty evident when facing the Connor and Highlands student sections. There were some pretty nasty things being yelled at him.

It's the nature of our society to focus on the negatives.

Time to grab the popcorn, sit back and watch this thread.............

I agree, the kids read this stuff and the kid's attitude is clearly evident on the court, just leave it at that. No need to discuss on the internet.

This is an interesting game to dissect. I have been hearing from many Beechwood people that they think they have a legit chance at the region. Looking at what you all have written and what I heard about the game - Beechwood is good but not nearly good enough to play with the big boys. Maybe they can get on a roll and wreck others plans for state, but I don't buy into the hype. I do buy into Dixie's hype - they have to be considered one of the favorites at this point.

If you mean "making" the region they're probably #4 or at best #3 in the 35th right now. It's going to take some breaks for them to get to the 35th championship.

I agree Clyde, Beechwood is in a very tough District. Holmes is lightning quick, Cov Cath is huge and Holy Cross is athletic who can also press very well. I would expect Cov Cath to be the top seed and there is no way Beechwood can beat them. jMO

Beechwood has good size and the athletic ability to play with almost anybody. They are however, very young. Of their top 6 or 7 players they have 1 SR, 1 JR and 4 SO. The game got away from the a little bit in the second period. They are more than capable of putting a whole game together like they played in that first period. Are they going to represent the region down state? Probably not. But Beechwood basketball has come along way from where they were twenty years ago.

Boys, I will say it now. When February roles around Beechwood is going to be a team that none of the "BIG BOYS" are going to want to play. Lets see this time last year Maus, Mckenzie and Erdman were playing freshman ball. Nussbaum was playing all three levels and Cruse was hurt most last season. Give these players a full varsity season and lets see what happens. Yes Nussbaum and Maus were playing up full time late last year, but now this is their team. All you experts on here that think they aren't ready you are right, but like a good wine or a well aged bourbon things get a lot better with time and seasoning. Lets talk again come district time, or for that matter the All A.
