I have also heard Weinerich has the job once Mueller retires and this is why he has not taken any of the numerous jobs that have come calling. I don't think Campbell County could go wrong with Turner or Lickert. Both are very good coaches. And what has Lickert done? He has taken two down and out programs and transformed them into competitive teams in a short amount of time. He also has/had the community believing and the players wanting to play for him. He could also take a down program like Campbell County and make them the 6a district champion.

Why would Turner leave Highlands in the first place? His son is coming up the ranks (Frosh) and he has a great teaching position in a Blue Ribbon HS. The only reason IMO is he wants to be a head coach. Other than that why anyone would want to go get mixed up with that Administration out there is beyond me.

There is a lot more to turning a team around than what the record shows at the end of the year. Steve is doing a fantastic job building excitement at Holmes. Traditionally, basketball has been more of a focus for a lot of the athletes that walk through Holmes High School. Since Steve has taken over, interest has grown significantly and the overall product on the field has drastically improved as has the overall positives that Steve has brought to the program off the field. Holmes now has a disciplined and fundamentally sound football team. Yes, Holmes, just like every other school in the state, has benefited from 6 classes when post season play is discussed. To say that the Holmes program is just a product of 6 classes is ridiculous. If you can’t see the overwhelming and obvious positives that have taken place in the Holmes football program the past few years then I don’t know what you’re looking at.

 

Steve has had similar success at Dayton and as a previous poster said his background in both High School and College has provided him with the exact experience I would hire in a football coach. IF Steve is the next coach at Campbell County I hope CCHS embraces him and supports his ideas for the future of there program. They have the potential to have a lot of success!

Thanks, I thought he was stating Winrich was blocked which of course confused me. I went back and read it again, thanks for clearing it up, although I do think Coach Turner would make a great head coach as well. I wish him the best and hopefully he stays at HHS.

The only reason he would even consider would be to become a head coach. He unfortunately isn't interested which I wish wasn't the case because lots of young men could benefit from his football knowledge and more importantly his positive example of being a wonderful man. It's a shame only one team gets to experience this influence. The kids from Ft. Thomas are very lucky to have him. He needs to get out of his comfort zone and spread the wealth a little, besides I've told him on many occasions that Jr would look great in Purple & Gold! :thumb:

To be fair here the season before he got there Dayton had only one win which was a 14 point home victory over Pendelton county in PC's first football season.

I know, think of what the magic man could do with CCHS's 6A enrollment, he would develop a whole new comfort zone and be churning out state championships in no time IMO. Lickert is good but in no way can his experience touch that of Turner's who has coached directly under Mueller for nearly 15 years now. I think this is the perfect opportunity for him. I hear that Winrich has his path blocked at HHS once Mueller retires anyway. CCHS will have new facilities that Newport coudln't offer. Go Camels get 01N11 with Turner at the helm! :dancingpa

Campbell County plays in 6-A, the last time I checked there were a couple of teams in Louisville - Trinity and St.X that might have something to say about Campbell County "churning out State Championships."

The only creditability to bite the dust is your creditability in detecting sarcasim!

Ron Madrick, the athletic director at Holmes, is extremely pleased with Coach Lickert and will do everything possible to keep him on the gridiron coaching the Bulldogs.

 

As has been said here previously there is much more to being a valuable, successful, football coach than wins and losses.
