Greg Oden is not overrated he is injury prone he has skills, Okafor is quietly having an okay year with the Hornets but he was still drafted to high and I agree on the other two...And Rashard Lewis has been an above average player for years now and was a second round pick...

The Wizards would be crazy to do this trade IMO. Lewis has a horrible contract, VC is old, and Orton is irrelevant. Getting rid of Arenas would be a plus, but Blache is not that bad. If the Magic want Arenas, I would make them earn it and have to eat his contract without Washington having to take on too much.

The Wizards owner says this rumor is garbage... Not that that means much.

I think it would be a great move for Orlando on paper. Obviously, you never know how the chemistry issues will work out. I've not watched Blatche, but his numbers look good and seem to suggest that he's more of an inside presence than Lewis (is that correct?).

 

Arenas is without a doubt an upgrade over Vince, IMO. It seems like Blatche would give Dwight Howard a better running mate in the paint and provide the Magic some additional presence inside. The Magic have been built around Howard with a lot of perimeter threats...would this affect the team construction and style of play in any significant way? That would be my only question.

 

But, here's where I think Orlando wins big in this deal...

Vince Carter - Age 33

I don't know what the contract situations are for Carter and Lewis, but I don't understand this trade from a Washington perspective, unless a) Carter and Lewis have contracts that will expire soon and Washington would like to re-build the roster around John Wall and/or b) they are desperate to move Arenas.

 

I heard some analysts talking about a potential Arenas for Carter deal. That, without additional players, would make much more sense to me, because I understand that Washington might have a desire to move Arenas. They'd be losing in the deal, but this team isn't competing for a title in the next couple of years and Carter could be a decent contributor on average team at best until his contract expires and while they build the roster. Throwing in Blatche for Lewis is what puzzles me.

I think we're pretty much in agreement. I think he's getting there...He's finally starting to adjust to his size IMO. If he realized how big of a mismatch he could create if he played on the block and occasionally came out on the perimeter, instead of vice versa, he'd be darn near unstoppable IMO. I see him as a slightly bigger, more skilled Rashard Lewis.

 

Especially w/ McGee in the middle, Blatche could do really well against an opposing 4-man in the post.

Your first paragraph is pretty on point with Blatche and Lewis. Blatche is definitely more of an inside presence than Shad, but he tends to like to stay on the perimeter too much. He's getting better about it, but if he could learn to stay inside more and only venture out there from time to time he'd be matchup nightmare IMO.

Oden didn't really have control of that.

No just the opposite, I think Blatche has all kinds of upside. Including him is why I don't like the trade. With Wall, Blatche and McGee they are a wing away from being a really good young team IMO.

If I'm the Wizards I don't do a deal that I have to get rid of Blatche, McGee or Wall. Anyone else is up for grabs, but if a team really wants Arenas they have to pay for it. Now if Washington was trying to dump Arenas for some garbage players I could see having to include one of them, but no way do I trade Arenas and Blatche for Carter and Lewis.

Blatche is the key in this deal but Arenas has a ton of years left on his contract while Carter has one year left. Lewis is also on the books for 62 million and it will last until 2013.
