Western 31 Collins 26

Featured Replies

Western has a very good team with some outstanding players on defense. I'm not surprised that they took the W.

Upset?
Not really ... Western is very talented, but it seems they tend to play to the level of their competition.

So...the question of the week for westsider...are where do you show up next week?

How man out of district kids does Collins have? I was told that kids got to kind of choose where they wanted to go this past year??????? If that is true you gotta think that Collins gets a little more ordinary in the next year or two?

Not from what I was told ... when Shelby County split, the students were told that they had to go to school in the district in which they lived. Collins just had more athletes and talent, at least on the football side of things.
I was told just the opposite that there was some choice involved.

The kids are to go to the school in their district, however, IF they wanted to stay at Shelby since they were already attending there, they could stay. So, in a way, they had a choice but not in the way you are saying. It was just the opposite.

Western and Collins were both loaded with size, speed and talent. I made the 2 1/2 hour drive to watch this one from the Collins sidelines as the guest of Coach J. Lucas. Collins came out flat and found themselves down 21-0 before they mounted a spirited comeback. Collins started their last drive on their own 8 with 2 minutes left in the game and no timeouts. With 29 seconds left a Western blitzing linebacker sacked and caused a game ending fumble at the Western 29. I honestly thought Collins was going to pull this one out. Both teams played extremely well and it was a great game to watch.

Are you sure they were allowed to stay at Shelby County is they so chose? I was told they weren't, that they had to go to school in the district in which they lived.

I was told that "If" Collins had a class offered that Shelby did not, then students that wanted to take that class could go to Collins.

Where is this school Collins located? I have never heard of them before. Did they merge with another school to make this school?

They are a split off of Shelby County High School. I guess instead of "merger" it would be a "de-merger."

That is what I heard that many of the returning players chose to go to Collins as well as the coaches.
